BMW M5 launched in India

BMW has officially launched the latest iteration of its iconic M5 in India, with an ex-showroom price of Rs 1.99 crore. As the heaviest production-spec M5 yet, it surprises enthusiasts by also being the fastest in the model’s history. This performance powerhouse arrives as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) and sits proudly above the M4 in BMW’s lineup of high-performance sedans for the Indian market.

At this price, the M5 retains its signature V8 muscle with a practical, spacious cabin, making it a tempting proposition for those who value both raw performance and everyday usability.

Powertrain

The heart of any BMW M car is its powertrain, and the new M5 is no exception. Under the hood, the M5 houses a 4.4-litre V8 engine paired with a hybrid system featuring an electric motor and an 18.6 kWh battery pack.

The V8 alone delivers a robust 577 bhp and 750 Nm of torque. But when combined with the hybrid system, the figures jump to an astonishing 717 bhp and 1,000 Nm. The hybrid setup also offers an electric-only range of 69 km, making this a rare performance car that can navigate short city commutes with zero emissions. Power is channelled to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission.

This immense power propels the M5 from 0 to 100 kmph in just 3.5 seconds. Its electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph can be extended to 305 kmph with the optional M Driver’s Package. Complementing its raw performance is a range of driver-focused technologies, including adaptive M suspension, M xDrive all-wheel drive, and Integral Active Steering for enhanced precision and control.

Design

The new M5 sports a bold and aggressive design, staying true to the brand’s signature aesthetics. At the front, you’ll find the unmistakable kidney grille flanked by sleek, twin-pod LED headlights. The car’s exterior features generous use of blacked-out elements that distinguish it from the standard 5-Series.

A highlight of the M5’s design is the M Carbon Roof, which reduces weight by over 30 kg compared to the panoramic glass sunroof version. Part of the optional M Carbon exterior package, it also includes carbon fiber exterior mirror caps and a rear spoiler. The M5 rides on light alloy wheels, with the rear set measuring up to 21 inches, enhancing its planted stance.

Interior and Features

M5 greets you with an opulent, tech-laden cabin. The dashboard is dominated by a curved display running BMW’s Operating System 8.5, comprising a 12.3-inch digital driver’s cluster and a 14.9-inch central touchscreen.

Ambient lighting adds a futuristic vibe to the cabin, while the optional 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system ensures an immersive listening experience—whether you’re indulging in your favourite playlist or the thrilling growl of the V8.

Additional features include a heads-up display, wireless charging pads, and a 360-degree camera. The M5 doesn’t skimp on safety either, offering a suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including rear collision warning and lane departure warning with steering assist.

Price and Competition

The BMW M5 is priced at ₹1.99 crore (ex-showroom) in India, positioning it against the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance in India. Globally, it also rivals performance sedans such as the Mercedes-Benz E 63 and Audi RS 7.

With its blend of staggering performance, cutting-edge technology, and everyday practicality, the new BMW M5 makes a compelling case for itself in the luxury-performance sedan segment.
