Mercedes-AMG has introduced the new C 63 S E Performance in India, priced at Rs 1.95 crore (ex-showroom). This marks AMG’s third plug-in hybrid model in the Indian market, following the S 63 E Performance and GT 63 S E Performance launches earlier this year. Bookings for the vehicle have opened, with deliveries set to begin in April 2025. Buyers will receive a complimentary Nürburgring driving experience as part of the package.
The C 63 S E Performance is powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that delivers 476 BHP and 545 Nm of torque. This engine combines a rear axle-mounted electric motor producing 204 BHP and 320 Nm. The combined power output is rated at 670 BHP and 1,020 Nm of torque. The car is paired with a 9-speed automatic gearbox and features the 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system, which includes a dedicated drift mode. The AMG can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in a claimed 3.4 seconds. The AMG Driver’s Package is standard, enabling a top speed of 280 kmph.
The turbocharger in the C 63 S E Performance uses Formula 1-derived technology, with an electric motor powered by a 400V electrical system to enhance turbine spool-up speed.
The C 63 S E Performance comes equipped with a 6.1 kWh battery pack, weighing 89 kg and providing an electric-only range of up to 13 km. The vehicle also features four-wheel steering, allowing the rear wheels to turn up to 2.5 degrees in the opposite direction to the front wheels at speeds up to 100 kmph and up to 0.7 degrees in the same direction at higher speeds. The car offers eight drive modes: Electric, Comfort, Battery Hold, Sport, Sport+, RACE, Slippery, and Individual, alongside three levels for its adaptive damping system – Comfort, Sport, and Sport+.
The AMG C 63 S E Performance includes several exterior modifications compared to the standard C-Class. It features the AMG-specific Panamericana grille with active shutters, which open or close based on the engine’s cooling needs. The redesigned front and rear bumpers increase the car’s overall length by 83 mm, and the front wheel arches make the car 76 mm wider. The vehicle comes with 20-inch alloy wheels as standard.
The C 63 S E Performance can be customised with AMG-exclusive paint options such as Matt Graphite Grey Magno. Ceramic high-performance composite brakes are available as an optional upgrade to the standard ventilated and perforated metal brakes.
Inside, the C 63 S E Performance maintains the standard C-Class layout but features AMG-specific upgrades. These include ventilated sports seats in Nappa leather, an AMG steering wheel, and carbon fibre trim. Standard equipment includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a head-up display, and a 710W, 15-speaker Burmester sound system. AMG Performance seats can be specified as an option. Safety features include seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, and a range of ADAS functionalities.
Priced at Rs 1.95 crore, the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance enters the Indian market as a high-performance plug-in hybrid sedan. While it has no direct rivals, it competes in the performance segment alongside models like the 550 BHP BMW M4 CS (Rs 1.89 crore) and the 500 BHP Porsche Panamera GTS (Rs 2.34 crore).
