Skoda Kylaq: Name of Skoda’s Upcoming Subcompact SUV

Skoda has revealed that Kylaq will be the name of its upcoming subcompact SUV. We expect Skoda to reveal this SUV sometime around the start of 2025. Skoda has been teasing the SUV for a while now, even running a competition among the masses to decide the name. While we do not have a lot of information from the brand, here is all you need to know about it:

Why Kylaq?

Like the Creta-rival Kushaq, Skoda intended to give the sub-compact SUV a name that starts with ‘K’ and ends with ‘Q’. As mentioned earlier, they ran a naming competition for this car, with the conditions being the starting and ending letters along with the requirement of it not being more than two syllables. From over 2 lakh entries with 24,000 names, ‘Kylaq’ got the most votes.

Kylaq comes from the same word in Sanskrit, that means crystal.

Design of Kylaq

While the design characteristics are not revealed yet, there are some parts we have figured from the teasers and the spy shots. It  will align with the overall design philosophy seen in Skoda cars in India. Its front design, alloy wheels, and taillamps will be reminiscent of the Kushaq. Built on the MQB-A0-IN platform, spy shots suggest that it will share its front doors with the Kushaq while having shorter rear doors. The SUV will have a high ground clearance and prominent shapes around the fenders.

Interior of of Kylaq

The interior of the Kylaq is expected to be feature rich, having a high chance of sharing the 10.25-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay with the Kushaq. Features like automatic climate control, wireless charging, ventilated seats, and sunroof are anticipated in the higher trims.

Powertrain of Kylaq

The upcoming SUV is likely to come with the same 1.0-liter 3-cylinder TSI petrol engine found in the Kushaq and Slavia, capable of delivering 114 bhp and 178 Nm of torque. This engine will be paired with either a 6-speed torque converter automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission.

Price and Rivals of of Kylaq

Although Skoda has not yet announced the pricing, to remain competitive, the starting price is expected to be around 8 Lakhs. Even with this pricing, it will face strong competition from other compact SUVs like the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and Toyota Taisor.
