Toyota is gearing up for a new era of motorsport dominance with the reveal of its GR GT and GT3 concept, each built to push boundaries of performance with their advanced engineering. The GR GT is a road-legal race car, whereas the GR GT3 is a track-focused beast which is built to compete in the highest level of motorsports.
Exterior aesthetics
The Toyota GR GT Prototype’s exterior design language is shaped entirely by aerodynamic efficiency, with every crease, vent, and panel sculpted to generate maximum downforce and minimum drag. Its elongated nose, wide stance and dramatic, race-bred bodywork channel airflow with surgical precision. Meanwhile, the GR GT3 pushes the aerodynamic design even further with its aggressive front splitters, which help pin the nose down while slicing through the air cleanly around the widened body. Along its flanks, the side-exit exhausts add both flair and function—reducing piping length, improving weight distribution, and keeping hot gases away from the rear diffuser’s airflow. The towering rear wing and deep diffusers ensure relentless grip at high speeds. Every element—from the elongated nose to the razor-sharp aero add-ons, work in harmony to make the GR GT3 a precision tool built to slice through air and dominate the track.
Engine and Chassis
Toyota GR GT and GR GT3 are equipped with a hybrid system that pairs a newly developed 4.0-litre, V8 twin-turbo engine and a single electric motor.Which can produce a combined output of up to 641bhp and 850Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a newly developed 8-speed automatic transmission, which transfers power to the rear wheels. This is a front-engine, rear wheel drive car with 45:55 weight distribution.
The GR GT and GT3 are mainly built on 3 elements — low weight, High rigidity and low centre of gravity. And they have achieved this by building Toyota's first all-aluminium body frame. Additionally, the appropriate use of carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP), plastic, and other materials in the body panels has resulted in a strong yet light body.
Suspension, brakes and tyres
Suspension of GR GT and GR GT3 feature a newly designed low-mounted double-wishbone system with forged aluminium arms at both the front and rear. The tyres are Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 developed exclusively for the GR GT. The GR GT and GT3 are equipped with Brembo Carbon ceramic disc brakes. The GR GT also features a Vehicle Stability Control system that allows multi-stage adjustment of driving force and braking control, enabling driver selection of the vehicle control difficulty level based on driving skill and encountered weather conditions for an enjoyable and secure driving experience.
Sporty on the outside, luxury on the inside?
While the GR GT follows aerodynamic design language on the outside, the interior follows an ultra-luxury design language. Ultra premium Alcantara, Red and Black theme all around the interior, Recaro racing seats, Digital driver’s display, all new GR steering wheel with physical controls both on the steering wheel and centre console in this economy? Yes, it does have physical controls, which feel way better than the touch controls integrated in the infotainment screen, which almost all modern cars get. It also gets rotatory knobs on the steering wheel, which are programmed to change driving modes. The interior features a driver-focused design language that ensures the driver can completely focus on performance.
What about GR GT3’s interior?
The GR GT3 features a completely track-focused interior with a completely black theme and race-bred minimalism at its core. The cockpit is stripped down to the essentials, surrounding the driver with lightweight materials, exposed carbon fibre, and a purpose-built layout that eliminates every distraction. Deep racing buckets, a multi-function steering wheel, and a motorsport-spec digital display ensure total command during high-speed runs. The interior of the GR GT3 feels like a control room, which isn’t made for the faint-hearted.
Verdict
While the GR GT fills the gap that has always been in Toyota’s sports car lineup, the GR GT3 marks Toyota’s commitment to motorsports. With the reveal of these two cars, Toyota has showcased its engineering capabilities. These two cars seem to be very impressive (at least on paper). They will be launched in 2027, says Toyota, and I guess we will have to wait to find out their true on-road and track capabilities.
