Renault has unveiled the Bridger concept, previewing a new compact SUV for India. The production version is expected to arrive by the end of 2027 and will sit between the Renault Kiger and the upcoming Renault Duster. Renault says the new SUV will be offered as a multi-energy vehicle, meaning petrol, hybrid, and even electric powertrains are on the cards.
Boxy design with strong SUV cues
The Bridger concept measures under four metres in length and adopts a distinctly upright stance. Up front, it features sharp LED lighting with illuminated Renault lettering set within a large blacked-out grille. The bonnet gets a recessed black insert, while the lower bumper features a wide air dam and a prominent skid plate to underline the SUV theme.
Chunky profile and high ground clearance
Viewed from the side, the Bridger keeps things simple and muscular. Squared wheel arches with thick cladding, a high 200 mm ground clearance and chunky 18-inch alloy wheels define the look. The rear door handles are integrated into the C pillar, helping keep the profile clean. The window line also tapers slightly towards the rear.
Spare wheel mounted on the tailgate
At the back, the most obvious talking point is the spare wheel mounted on the tailgate, a design cue rarely seen in the sub-four-metre segment. Slim LED tail lamps flank the spare wheel, while the rear bumper gets another large skid plate. The rear end itself is deliberately slab-sided, emphasising a rugged look.
A big space is promised inside
Renault has not yet revealed the interior of the Bridger concept, but claims that cabin space will be a highlight. Rear knee room is pegged at 200 mm, which Renault says will be among the best in the segment. Boot space is rated at 400 litres, slightly larger than the current benchmark in the segment.
Multiple powertrain options planned
The production Bridger will be offered with multiple powertrains,s including petrol, hybrid and electric options. That flexibility is likely aimed at future-proofing the SUV for changing market demands.
The takeaway
The Bridger concept hints at Renault’s next attempt at cracking the compact SUV segment. With a boxy design, practical proportions and multiple powertrain options planned, the upcoming SUV could play an important role in the brand’s India strategy.
