New Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe breaks cover: the most powerful AMG ever!

Say hello to the 2026 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. It made its debut in 2018, and for the second generation now, the performance sedan has gone fully electric. It gets a radical facelift inspired by the AMG GT XX Concept, a completely revised interior and performance stats that will put many hypercars to shame! This is the most powerful vehicle that will carry the AMG badge now, and it's capable of hitting 0 to 100 in just 2.4 seconds, courtesy of a near 1200bhp tri-motor setup. Here's more.

Design

This GT 4-door gets AMG’s new grille that has illuminated vertical slats and logo. It has new, sleeker, LED headlights with tri-star signature DRLs connected by a light bar. At the back, it gets circular tail lights that may remind you of the retro circular taillights on older Mercs, plus a similar light bar at the front. For aerodynamic purposes, it gets an extendable rear spoiler and Aerokinetic components such as the Airpanel- air management system that keeps the car grounded, two active venturi plates under the body and a rear diffuser. The overall shape of this luxury performance sedan is also tinkered with, with it now boasting a more rounded rear end that's more aerodynamic. And that's reflected in the drag coefficient factor — it has a 0.22Cd, one of the lowest on any modern cars, and that should help it with better range.

Interior and features

The AMG GT 4-door Coupe gets Merc's new interior — its design is similar to what we've seen on the new CLA. It has a three-spoke steering wheel with digital buttons, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless connectivity and a 14-inch passenger display that's optional. The infotainment system consists of the vehicle performance and customization menu for the AMG setup and Predictive performance manager that keeps records of the performance when you go on the track.

On the centre console, it gets new rotary knobs which control everything from your drive nodes to your suspension settings

The car has a one-piece panoramic glass roof with lights, and boasts a 4D Burmester surround sound system that mimics the sound of the V8 engine. Other features include heated and ventilation front seats, a heads-up display, wireless charger, and a plethora of interior trim options, including carbonfibre.

Powertrain, battery and performance

The AMG GT 4-Door now boasts a tri-motor setup, two on the rear axle and one at the front, which together, makes a colossal 1137bhp and a whopping 2000Nm of peak torque. Powering this axial-flux setup is a 106kWh high voltage battery with a high performance cooling hub — tech that's inspired and taken comes from the AMG GT XX Concept, and the AMG One hypercar.

Acceleration, as a result, is simply mega — 0 to 100kmph is achieved within just 2 seconds on the GT 63 variant, making it hypercar quick and the car has a 300kmph top speed. The GT 55 variant on the other hand boasts a more muted 796bhp. The battery supports 600kW fast charging, which enables 10 to 80 per cent top up in just 10 minutes giving a range of 460km. And the total claimed range? That's 700km on a full charge.

Rivals

The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe is now the newest entrant in the upper stratosphere of luxury performance sedans and its main rivals is the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, Lucid Air Sapphire, Audi RS e-tron and the Tesla Model S Plaid which is now discontinued.
