Mercedes-Benz is going all in with the Vision Iconic concept. This two-door coupe isn’t shy about anything, especially its grille, which is so huge it might need its own parking spot. Following the GLC and C-Class concepts at Munich, this grille lights up, shows graphics, and is framed in chrome and smoked glass. Even the three-pointed star on the bonnet glows. Subtle it is not.
The design nods to classics like the W108, W111, and 600 Pullman, but the tech is pure future. Solar panels under the gloss black paint could produce enough energy to cover about 12,000km a year if applied to an SUV, which is an interesting hint for India’s electric vehicle market.
Inside, it’s art deco meets sci-fi. A four-spoke steering wheel floats in front of a glass dashboard, while a pillar-to-pillar screen takes centre stage. Blue velvet and polished brass handles add a touch of luxury that feels almost cheeky. Steering is by wire and the car packs level four autonomous tech, powered by a neuromorphic computer that reacts faster than most drivers and uses 90% less energy for autonomous driving.
Mercedes isn’t saying much about performance, but the concept hints at strong electric outputs and a glimpse of what future cars might feel like. It’s bold, tech-packed, and impossible to ignore—a car that looks back at history while hurtling forward.
For India, the Vision Iconic is a statement. It shows Mercedes can mix spectacle, brains, and efficiency into one package. Just don’t expect to see it on our roads soon—it’s still a concept.
