Mercedes-Benz unveils electric C-Class with 762km range

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the all-electric C-Class, its first fully electric take on the brand’s core sedan, with a claimed range of up to 762km.

This is a significant shift. The C-Class has traditionally been the backbone of Mercedes’ line-up, and electrifying it signals where the brand is headed next.

Under the skin, the electric C-Class sits on the new MB.EA platform uses a 94kWh battery. It supports an 800V electrical architecture, enabling fast charging up to 330kW. Mercedes claims this can add around 325km of range in just 10 minutes.

Performance is not overlooked either. The C 400 4MATIC variant produces about 483 bhp and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.0 seconds. There is also a two-speed transmission on the rear axle, designed to improve efficiency at higher speeds.

The chassis setup includes optional rear-axle steering, which reduces the turning circle to 11.2 metres, along with air suspension and adaptive damping. It is a mix of comfort and manoeuvrability, rather than outright sportiness.

Design-wise, Mercedes has taken a different route compared to the EQE and EQS. Instead of a one-bow silhouette, this car looks closer to a conventional C-Class, with a coupe-like roofline and a more familiar stance. The front gets an illuminated grille panel with the signature star pattern, while the rear features similar star-inspired tail-lamps. Aerodynamics remain a focus, with a drag coefficient starting at 0.22.

Inside, the emphasis is on screens and space. The dashboard is dominated by a 39-inch MBUX Hyperscreen that spans the width of the cabin. It runs on Mercedes’ MB.OS software includes an AI-based assistant along with navigation that integrates charging stops.

Other features include a panoramic roof, multi-zone climate control and powered seats with ventilation and massage functions. The longer wheelbase also provides more rear seat space than the combustion version.

Practicality is covered, too. There is a 470-litre boot along with a 101-litre front storage compartment, and the car can tow up to 1.8 tonnes.

There is no word yet on an India launch, but the electric C-Class clearly shows how Mercedes plans to evolve its most important sedan.

The approach is familiar. Keep the shape recognisable, increase efficiency and load it with technology. Whether that balance works in everyday use is something only a drive will reveal.
