The version of the V-Class headed to India is based on the facelifted model unveiled globally in 2023. While it retains the familiar slab-sided MPV silhouette, it features updated styling and revised interior technology.
Internationally, the V-Class is offered in two wheelbase options — Long (3,200mm) and Extra Long (3,430mm). It is also available with multiple seating layouts, including 8-seat, 7-seat, and a range-topping 6-seat configuration with individual captain's chairs in the second and third rows. Mercedes-Benz has not yet confirmed which wheelbase or seating layout will be offered for the Indian market.
Design And Interior Layout
Design highlights of the V-Class include a large U-shaped grille, a gently sloping bonnet, a strong shoulder line and a tall, vertical rear section with a large glasshouse. Wheel designs and bumper detailing vary by trim level, including Premium, Exclusive, and AMG Line.
Inside, the V-Class features a twin 12.3-inch screen setup for the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster. Unlike newer Mercedes interiors that are dominated by a full-width screen, the V-Class retains a more traditional dashboard layout with physical buttons and rotary controls on the centre console.
The Core Strength
The V-Class’ biggest focus continues to be rear-seat comfort.
In its top-spec 6-seat configuration, the MPV offers individual second-row captain seats with features such as adjustable massage functions, seat ventilation, recline with footrests, ambient lighting, integrated storage spaces, USB ports and cup holders. This layout is aimed squarely at chauffeur-driven buyers and families prioritising comfort over outright performance.
Powertrain Details
In international markets like the UK, the V-Class is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, available in two states of tune:
-
220d: 163hp and 380Nm
-
300d: 237hp and 500Nm
The engine is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and is offered with both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive options abroad. However, Mercedes-Benz has not yet confirmed which engine specification or drivetrain configuration will be brought to India.
While an all-electric version, known as the EQV, is available globally, there is no confirmation of its launch in India at this stage.
Growing Popularity Of Luxury MPVs In India
Luxury MPVs are slowly gaining traction in India, driven by demand from families and chauffeur-driven buyers. Toyota sold over 1,100 units of the Vellfire in FY2025, highlighting the growing acceptance of this body style despite premium pricing.
When the V-Class was last on sale, its primary rival was the Toyota Vellfire. Since then, the segment has expanded with the introduction of models such as the Lexus LM and MG M9, making the competition considerably tougher this time around.
Interestingly, the V-Class is expected to be the only diesel-powered MPV in the luxury segment, where rivals currently rely on hybrid or electric powertrains.
Expected Price And Rivals
The upcoming Mercedes-Benz V-Class is expected to be priced at around Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom), depending on the variant and configuration introduced in India.
Once launched, it will compete with luxury MPVs such as the Toyota Vellfire, Lexus LM and MG M9.
