Maruti e Vitara Scores 5 Stars in Bharat NCAP Testing

Safety isn’t a category where Maruti Suzuki has traditionally led the conversation, but the upcoming e Vitara may mark a shift. The electric SUV has secured a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating for both adult and child protection, which places it at the top of the brand’s current lineup.

This result mirrors the 5-star rating it received from Euro NCAP earlier this year, giving Maruti a rare moment of global and domestic alignment on safety performance.

The test car was the top Alpha variant fitted with a 61kWh battery, though the score also applies to the Delta and Zeta versions, including those with the smaller 49kWh pack. Structurally, then, the entire range offers the same protection level.

Adult Occupant Protection

The e-Vitara scored 31.49 out of 32 points.
The frontal offset test returned 15.49 out of 16 with good protection for the head, neck, pelvis, thighs and feet. The chest and tibias received an “adequate” rating, which still reflects strong structural integrity.

Side impact testing was even cleaner with a full 16 out of 16 and good protection recorded across all measured regions, including the chest.

Child Occupant Protection

Child safety performance was also strong at 43 out of 49 points.
Both dummies were seated rear-facing and achieved full scores in dynamic testing: 24 out of 24. The CRS installation test also secured full marks at 12 out of 12. The vehicle assessment score brought the total down slightly, although not enough to affect the final star rating.

Safety Equipment

The e-Vitara arrives with seven airbags, Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, TPMS ISOFIX mounts and an electronic parking brake with auto hold. The model also includes front and rear parking sensors and is only the second Maruti, after the Victori,s to feature a full Level 2 driver assistance suite.

How it Stacks Against Rivals

Its closest competitor, the Mahindra BE 6, also carries a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating and edges ahead slightly with 0.49 more points for adult protection and two extra points for child safety. On paper, the gap is small, but the comparison establishes the e-Vitara in the upper end of the segment in terms of safety credentials.

A Sign of Intent

With a certified range of 543km and pricing expected to sit between ₹19.06lakh and ₹24.42lakh on road, the e Vitara was already positioned as a key EV for Maruti. The Bharat NCAP score strengthens that case and signals a welcome shift toward higher safety standards across the brand’s future portfolio.
