Kia Syros: The Compact SUV with Big Ambitions Rolls Into India

Kia has pulled the covers off the all-new Syros, a compact SUV here to claim its slice of the sub-4-metre segment. With its global debut in India today, the Syros is Kia’s second pint-sized contender after the Sonet, and this time, it’s bringing more legroom to the rear seats. Think of it as the Sonet’s slightly taller, broader sibling that’s been hitting the gym and raiding the tech cupboard.

Design: Bold, Boxy, and Just a Little Bit EVish

The Syros borrows some from Kia’s electric fleet like the EV9, sporting a boxy nose and vertically stacked LED headlights. The signature “Tiger Nose” grille is sealed off at the top for a cleaner EV-inspired look, while the LED DRLs swoop down dramatically, ensuring it’s noticed in the rearview mirrors of lesser cars.

Its “tallboy” stance is unmistakable from the side, with blacked-out A-, C-, and D-pillars creating a floating roof effect. The Skoda Yeti vibes don’t end there—the chunky cladding and unique 3-petal alloy wheels (up to 17 inches) give it the ruggedness to tackle city potholes with style. Around the back, high-mounted L-shaped tail lights wrap around the rear windshield, capping off the Syros’ attention-grabbing design.

Interior: A Tech Paradise on Wheels

Slide inside, and the Syros greets you with a dashboard featuring dual 12.3-inch screens for the infotainment and instrument cluster. Kia’s even squeezed in a 5-inch climate control display, creating what they’re calling a “30-inch display experience.” The cabin is bathed in ambient lighting, while a two-spoke steering wheel and concealed AC vents keep things neat and modern.

Seats? all four ventilated seats, sliding and reclining second-row seats, and even a powered driver’s seat. And if that’s not luxurious enough, there’s a panoramic sunroof to gaze at the stars, assuming you’re not parked under a metro line.

Features: Stuffed Like a Stocking on Christmas Eve

The Syros is crammed with tech, including wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Harman Kardon 8-speaker system, and even Level 2 ADAS for those who enjoy their safety with a side of sophistication. Throw in a 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake, and OTA updates, and it’s clear Kia didn’t hold back.

Under the Hood: Petrol, Diesel, and Paddle Shifters

The Syros offers two engine options: a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol churning out 120hp and a 1.5-litre diesel with 116hp. Both engines come with manual and automatic options, with the petrol even boasting a slick 7-speed DCT and paddle shifters for your inner racer.

The Competition: Ready to Rumble

Set to rival heavyweights like the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, and Maruti Brezza, the Syros aims to stand out with its expansive feature set and spacious rear seats. Prices will be revealed in February, but expect a premium over the Sonet, possibly nudging into Seltos territory.

When Can You Get It?

Bookings open on January 3, with deliveries rolling out in early February.
