Hyundai Tucson Earns 5-Star Bharat NCAP Safety Rating – Full Report

In a significant milestone for Hyundai India, the Tucson has become the first model from the automaker’s lineup to undergo and pass the Bharat NCAP (BNCAP) crash tests with flying colours, earning an impressive 5-star safety rating. The premium mid-size SUV, currently on sale in India, achieved a score of 30.84 out of 32 in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 41 out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection (COP).

Adult Occupant Protection:

Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test

  • Score: 14.84 out of 16
This test simulated a head-on collision at 64 kmph, with 40% of the vehicle’s width impacting a deformable barrier. The Tucson excelled in protecting both the driver and front passenger. Features like dual frontal airbags, seat belt pre-tensioners, and load limiters minimized injuries, while most protection areas were rated “good.”

Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test

  • Score: 16 out of 16
In the side-impact test, Tucson’s safety features, including side and curtain airbags, provided outstanding protection to critical areas like the head, chest, and pelvis. The structural design of the SUV also contributed significantly to its top marks.

Child Occupant Protection:

The Tucson excelled in Child Occupant Protection tests, scoring:

  • Dynamic Test: 24/24
  • CRS Installation Compatibility: 12/12
  • Vehicle Assessment Parameters: 5/13

The evaluation involved testing child dummies representing 18-month-old and 3-year-old passengers using ISOFIX-mounted rear-facing seats. The results demonstrated excellent protection, ensuring optimal safety for young passengers.
