Ferrari unveils the Amalfi Spider

Ferrari has unveiled its latest V8 convertible, the Amalfi Spider. It is set to replace the beloved Roma Spider in Ferrari's lineup. It has similar underpinnings to the Amalfi coupe but offers a drop-top experience for those who want a grand tourer, but also don't want to miss out on the convertible lifestyle.

Improved Powertrain

Under the hood, it features Ferrari's latest 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 engine mounted in a front-mid-engine configuration. It produces an impressive 631bhp and 760Nm of torque and is mated to a revised eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox from the SF90. The increase in power compared to the Roma Spider is achieved with the help of a new engine control unit similar to the 296 GTB and the Purosangue, which can independently spool up the turbos faster for better throttle response.

The Amalfi Spider can sprint to 100kmph in just 3.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 318kmph. The kerb weight is 1556 kg, making it 86 kg heavier than the coupe. Ferrari has also equipped the Amalfi Spider with the ABS Evo system, along with slip control (SSC) 6.1 from the 296 GTB and the 12Cilindri.

Topless, Quickly

The biggest highlight of the Ferrari Amalfi Spider is its soft top roof. It has Ferrari's Z-fold kinematic system that enables the roof to open and close in just 13.5 seconds! The folding roof system can be used while driving up to speeds of 60kmph. The clever roof folding mechanism folds the roof into a form factor of just 220mm! This compact package allows for a respectable 172 litres of boot space when the roof is down and 255 litres when the roof is up. Ferrari claims that its 5-layered roof provides sound insulation comparable to the Amalfi coupe. There is also an integrated wind deflector mounted behind the rear seats that can be deployed up to speeds of 170kmph.

The roof is offered in 6 colour options with 2 fabric materials, including the new “Tecnico Ottanio” fabric bespoke to the Amalfi Spider. Ferrari also offers an exclusive “Rosso Tramonto” colour inspired by the evening hues at the Amalfi Coast in Italy.

Revised Interior

On the inside, the Amalfi spider has the same 2+2 layout and a dual cockpit layout just like the coupe, which offers a cocooning effect for the driver. The cabin is dominated by three massive screens, a 15.6-inch digital driver's display, a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, and an 8.8-inch passenger display. There is a milled aluminium central console, and all the switch gear has been updated; gone are the capacitive touch buttons, replaced with physical tactile buttons. Ferrari has also unveiled a monolithic cockpit design merging the air vents into the instrument console.

In terms of connectivity features, Ferrari has equipped the Amalfi Spider with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay with wireless smartphone charging. Other features include ADAS tech, including Adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning system, lane keep assist, and driver fatigue or distraction monitoring.

There's no official confirmation of the India launch of the Amalfi Spider, but we can expect it to be slightly more expensive than the Amalfi Coupe, which comes in at ₹5.59 crore.
