Land Rover has once again dipped into the past to give its long-standing Discovery SUV a fresh lease of life. Despite being around since the Mesozoic Era (well, 2017), the fifth-gen Discovery soldiers on with new variants for 2025: the bold Tempest and nostalgic Gemini.
Highlights:
-
Tempest Edition
• Top-spec, top-drama. Draped in matte protective film with Petra Copper Gloss roof and accents.
• 22-inch diamond-cut wheels finished to match.
• Cabin dressed in black leather with brushed aluminium highlights and special Tempest badging.
• The name? A nod to an old internal development project. Mysterious. -
Gemini Edition
• Named after the codename for the original 2.5-litre TDI diesel from the 1989 Disco 1.
• Available in six colours. Only Gemini gets the exclusive ‘Sedona Red’.
• Standard contrast black roof, 21-inch silver alloys, and commemorative badging.
• Inside: fridge between the front seats, rear-seat media holders, and three-zone climate. Yes, it’s still a family-hauler. -
Powertrain & Specs
• Now solely powered by a 3.0-litre inline-six mild-hybrid diesel.
• Produces 345 bhp and a torquey 700 Nm.
• Badged D350. AWD, of course, and capable of reaching around 209 kmph if you’re into that sort of thing. -
Trim & Price Update
• Standard trims: S, Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE and Metropolitan get spec bumps.
• UK prices:
– Discovery S starts at approx ₹68.5 lakh
– Gemini Edition: from ₹76.6 lakh
– Tempest Edition: a lofty ₹88.4 lakh (All prices converted from GBP, excluding options/taxes) -
Accessory Packs for All Occasions
• Beach Days Pack: rubber mats, roof rack, boot organiser.
• Road Trip Pack: seat-back organisers, roof box, wind deflectors.
• Snow Days Pack: ski rack and a snow traction system. Snow not included.
If the Defender feels too battlefield chic, the Discovery still offers a more urbane blend of luxury, nostalgia, and go-anywhere capability. Especially now, with some fresh paint and a few fridge-equipped seats.
