Reasons to Pick Thar Roxx Over Force Gurkha 5-Door

The Mahindra Thar has long been the most popular off-road SUV in the Indian market. One factor that went against it was the lack of a 5-door version. This was also removed when Mahindra launched the Thar Roxx, the 5-door version of the SUV. The car that could give the Thar Roxx competition is the Force Gurkha 5-door. Here are the reasons that would make you prefer Thar Roxx over the Force Gurkha.

Petrol Option

The Gurkha 5-door offers just a single 2.6-litre diesel engine. On the other hand, the Thar Roxx offers both a 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Considering the government’s approach to diesel engines, buying a new diesel car might not be the best option. Adding to that are the reduced time allowed to keep diesel vehicles in cities like Delhi and the random bans due to pollution.

More Power

Both the petrol and diesel versions of the Thar Roxx are more potent than the Gurkha. In exact numbers, the power output of the Gurkha is 138 bhp, and the torque is 320 Nm. On the other hand, the 2.2-litre diesel counterpart on the Thar produces 148 bhp and 330 Nm of torque. The petrol version of the Thar Roxx is even more powerful with its 158 bhp and 330 Nm of torque.

Automatic Transmission Available

If you consider driving in city traffic, managing the gears and clutch of manual transmissions can prove to be a major hassle. An automatic transmission comes in handy in such a situation. If you, too, want to buy a car with an automatic transmission, the Gurkha will let you down. That is because it only offers a manual transmission. The Thar, in contrast, offers a 6-speed Torque converter automatic transmission.

More Affordable

The Thar Roxx might be a better pick if you have a tight budget. The introductory starting price of the Thar Roxx is Rs 12.99 lakh for the petrol and Rs 13.99 lakh for the diesel variant. The Gurkha 5-door comes at a way more premium price of Rs 18 lakh in its single available variant. One thing you need to keep in mind here is that the Thar Roxx offers an RWD drivetrain in its base variants, while the Gurkha 5-door is exclusively a 4WD model.

Added Features

While the Gurkha is a feature-rich SUV, the Thar Roxx offers more features than it. These include cruise control, keyless start, reverse camera, height-adjustable driver seat, projector headlamps, and LED taillights. On the safety front, the Thar has 6 airbags compared to the 2 on the Gurkha, along with an ADAS suite the Gurkha lacks.
