Land Rover has launched the long-awaited Defender Octa in the Indian market. This model is positioned to be the most powerful in the Defender lineup. Prices start at Rs 2.59 crore (ex-showroom), whereas the Defender Octa Edition One is priced at Rs 2.79 crore (ex-showroom).
Design
The Defender Octa retains the Defender DNA in terms of design. It has a bulky yet sharp design language. It gets redesigned front and rear bumpers for better off-road capability and improved airflow. It gets the same LED headlights and taillights, but the Octa additionally gets a diamond graphic on the panel behind the rear window, which shows a black diamond within a titanium disc.
Powertrain
At the heart of the Defender Octa is a 4.4-litre twin-turbo mild-hybrid V8 engine that produces 626 bhp and 750 Nm of torque at its peak. The Defender Octa accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in an eye-watering 4 seconds.
Off-Road Focus
The Defender nameplate has long been associated with off-road, but the Octa takes it ahead with its OCTA mode - the first performance-focused off-road mode on a Defender. This unique setting optimises traction, braking and acceleration on loose surfaces, enhancing the vehicle's off-road performance. Apart from this, the Defender Octa also gets 28mm higher ride height and 68mm wider stance for improved ground clearance and the ability to wade through 1 metre of water – deeper than any previous Defender, largest-ever tyres (33-inch diameter) for off-road performance lastly 400mm brake discs with six-piston monobloc calipers.
The Edition One
The Edition One will be available in the first year of production. Features:
-
Exclusive Faroe Green exterior with a refined Khaki/Ebony Ultrafabrics PU interior
-
20-inch forged alloy wheels
-
Body and Soul Seat Audio Technology
The Defender OCTA’s cabin is designed for elegance. It includes semi-aniline leather and lightweight Ultrafabrics PU, which is 30% lighter than traditional leather.
Conclusion
The Defender Octa is a powerful, luxury off-road SUV with top-of-the-line technology. It will compete against the Mercedes-AMG G63, which is equally capable on and off the road. Bookings for the Defender Octa will open soon, offering enthusiasts a blend of rugged capability and premium comfort.
