Mahindra Thar Roxx MX1 Variant: Is the Base Variant a Good Pick?

The Thar Roxx was launched yesterday at an introductory price of Rs 12.99 Lakh for the base petrol RWD variant. This variant brings all the basic features you would expect from the SUV. If you are looking for an offroad 5-door SUV but don't want to spend a lot, then the Thar MX1 might be the best pick for you. This is all you will get with this version:

Features of the Thar Roxx MX1

While the MX1's feature list is not as expansive as that of its more expensive counterparts, it ticks all the necessities. This variant's exterior features include LED projector headlamps, a dual-tone metal top, LED tail lights, and 18-inch steel wheels.

Stepping inside, you will get the 10.25-inch infotainment display with other features like a keyless entry with a push start/stop button, manual controls for air conditioning with rear AC vents, USB-C charging points, height adjustable driver seat, and 60:40 split in the rear seats. The MX1 variant gets fabric upholstery for the seats.

To ensure safety, Mahindra has fitted this variant with 6 airbags, 3-point seat belts for passengers, ABS with EBD, rear parking and sensors, and electronic stability control (ESC).

Powertrain of Thar Roxx MX1

You can buy the MX1 variant with both the petrol and diesel powertrain. The petrol version is a 2.0-litre turbocharged mill that churns out 158 bhp and 330 Nm of torque. The diesel is a 2.2-litre powerhouse that is capable of producing 148 bhp and 330 Nm of torque. Both of these engines are mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox in the MX1 variant. This gearbox sends power to the rear wheels through a RWD drivetrain.

Features Thar Roxx MX1 Misses On

Being the base trim, the MX1 misses out on some extra features that you might want to have. These include automatic climate control, alloy wheels, a 10.25 inch digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, wireless phone charger and audio controls on the steering. On the safety front, the MX1 does not have a 360-degree camera, front parking sensor, an ADAS suite, or a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Price of Thar Roxx MX1

The Thar Roxx MX1 is available at 12.99 Lakh for the petrol RWD variant. On the other hand, if you want a diesel engine, you can buy it for 13.99 Lakh. For reference, you can get the LX Hard Top variant of the Thar 3-door with a manual transmission for 12.85 Lakh and automatic for 14.10 Lakh. The LX HardTop Petrol RWD with an automatic transmission of the Thar 3-door costs 14.10 Lakh.
