Mahindra has officially launched the XEV 9S, its first fully electric, three-row family SUV, marking a major milestone in the brand’s growing EV portfolio. With prices starting at ₹19.95 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom), the 9S becomes one of the most affordable 7-seater electric SUVs in the country, addressing a space that previously had no true mass-market option. Built on the INGLO born-electric platform, the XEV 9S benefits from a flat floor, improved interior room and smoother driving dynamics compared to EVs converted from petrol or diesel models. It is aimed at families who want the practicality of a full-size SUV while transitioning to electric mobility, with multiple battery choices, strong performance figures and a modern, feature-rich cabin. Bookings for the XEV 9S will begin on January 14, 2026, with deliveries planned to start from January 23, 2026. Meanwhile, Mahindra has announced that test drive units will be available at its dealerships starting December 5, 2025.
Mahindra XEV 9S Design and Interior
The XEV 9S carries a clean, modern design that blends practicality with presence. It features a closed-off grille, signature LED DRLs, triangular LED headlamps and a long bonnet that adds to its SUV stance. The dimensions support its family-focused appeal: the SUV has a wheelbase of 2762mm, a height of 1745mm and a ground clearance of 219mm. These proportions are sure to ensure generous interior space.
Practicality is a highlight. With the third row folded, the XEV 9S offers 527-litres of boot space, along with a 150-litre frunk under the bonnet — a rare storage advantage in this category. Wide-opening doors, tall seating and ample glass area make the cabin feel open and comfortable across all three rows. The flat floor, thanks to the EV-only architecture, adds significantly to comfort for middle and rear passengers.
Mahindra XEV 9S Features and Technology
The XEV 9S is equipped with a long list of comfort, convenience and safety features. The centerpiece is a triple-screen setup inside the cabin, comprising a large digital driver display, a central infotainment touchscreen and dedicated screens for rear passengers. The infotainment system supports connected-car functions, wireless updates and smartphone integration.
Premium touches include an openable panoramic sunroof, leatherette upholstery, ventilated front seats, multi-colour ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, rear sunshades and a premium audio system. The sliding and reclining second-row seats improve comfort and access to the third row.
Safety has been given comparable attention. The SUV offers multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, stability control, hill-hold assist, 360-degree camera, blind-spot view, tyre-pressure monitoring and ISOFIX mounts. Higher variants add ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, forward collision warning, auto emergency braking and a driver drowsiness alert. Convenience features like memory seats, one-touch tumble for the second row and hands-free tailgate operation further enhance usability.
Mahindra XEV 9S Battery Options, Price, Performance and Range
Mahindra offers the XEV 9S with three battery pack options: 59kWh, 70kWh and 79kWh. All variants support fast charging, helping reduce waiting time on long journeys. Performance is strong for a family EV. Mahindra claims 0 to 100kmph in around 7 seconds for the larger battery packs, while the 59kWh version posts a 7.7-second time. The top speed is 202kmph.
The XEV 9S has been launched in a wide range of variants to suit different budgets and battery requirements, starting at ₹19.95 lakh (ex-showroom) for the entry-level Pack One Above with the 59kWh battery. The same Pack One Above trim with the larger 79kWh battery is priced at ₹21.95 lakh. Mahindra also offers the mid-spec Pack Two Above, which costs ₹24.45 lakh with the 70kWh battery and ₹25.45 lakh with the 79kWh option. At the top of the lineup, the Pack Three variants with the highest level of features are priced between ₹27.35 lakh and ₹29.45 lakh, depending on the configuration. Keep note that Mahindra’s home AC chargers at an additional cost — ₹50,000 for the 7.2kW unit and ₹75,000 for the faster 11.2kW setup.
Real-world range expectations vary depending on battery size: the smaller packs are estimated to deliver 400–450km, while the larger ones could provide 500–550km on a full charge. Similar to the BE6 and the XEV 9E.
