The Indian Supercross Racing League (ISRL) is witnessing a surge in global attention, with a record 155 riders signing up for its second season. Scheduled to begin later this year, the upcoming mega auction in August will feature elite athletes from 21 countries across six continents, marking a 50% increase from last year’s numbers.
Big International Names
The 2025 roster features an impressive mix of experienced international riders and top Indian contenders. Among the new entrants are celebrated names like six-time German Supercross champion Greg Aranda, French champion Maxime Desprey, AMA veteran Justin Starling, and Australia’s Luke Clout, a regular at the World Supercross Championship.
Returning to the ISRL are notable riders from Season 1, including Australia’s Matt Moss — a nine-time national champion and last season’s 450cc winner, as well as Jordi Tixier of France and Reid Taylor of Australia.
Indian Riders
Seasoned Indian riders like Ikshan Shanbhag and Rugved Barguje, who delivered standout performances in the league’s inaugural season, are back as well. Barguje, who raced with an injury last season, is targeting a podium finish this year.
Expanding the Supercross Footprint
The ISRL, which debuted as the world’s first franchise-based Supercross league, is expected to run from October to December, with races taking place across multiple Indian cities. Events will span three categories: 450cc International, 250cc International, and 250cc India-Asia Mix.
Auction to Decide Team Line-Ups
Riders will now go under the hammer in a franchise auction, where team owners will finalise their picks. The auction will play a crucial role in determining the level of competitiveness in the grid during Season 2.
Conclusion
With a sharp rise in participation, a blend of global veterans and Indian talent, and growing credibility in international racing circles, the ISRL is quickly carving out its place in the motorsport ecosystem. As the second season approaches, all eyes will be on how this young league handles the pressure of expectation and whether it can deliver on the promise of becoming a true global destination for Supercross.
