Legendary F1 Designer Adrian Newey To Join Aston Martin from 2025

Adrian Newey is headed to Aston Martin in 2025, bidding adieu to his long stint at Red Bull. While there was a long rumour that Newey would join Ferrari, he has chosen Silverstone instead. With 25 world championships to his name, Newey was one of the most sought-after men in the Paddock in 2024 as his Red Bull contract came to an end.

House Hunting Gave A Clue

As Jeremy Clarkson had said in a viral video, Newey was house hunting in  Oxfordshire, not Maranello. Maranello here refers to the city in Italy where Ferrari's headquarters is located. The Ferrari rumour had been doing rounds for a long while as Newey had a while back claimed that he would want to work for Ferrari before retirement. What he had also said was that he regretted not working with Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso. Considering Hamilton was moving to Ferrari next year and that the Italian team was aggressively poaching employees from other teams, the Newey move made a lot of sense.
Other than Ferrari, Williams was also reported to be in contention for hiring Newey. This aligned with the house hunting statement, as Williams is based in Oxfordshire. This would bring the 65-year-old design full circle, as he had won multiple titles with Williams in the 1990s.

2026 Rule Changes in Sight

Adrian Newey will join Aston Martin on 1 March 2025. This will give him enough time to make plans that ensure the team will do well in the 2026 regulation changes, including a new power unit formula. He will have access to a state-of-the-art facility featuring a new wind tunnel and in-loop simulator and will face the challenge of incorporating a new works power unit supplier, Honda.

What Newey Said

On his shift to Aston Martin, Newey said, "I am thrilled to be joining the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team. I have been hugely inspired and impressed by the passion and commitment that Lawrence brings to everything he is involved with. Lawrence is determined to create a world-beating team. He is the only majority team owner who is actively engaged in the sport. He added, "His commitment is demonstrated in the development of the new AMR Technology Campus and wind tunnel at Silverstone, which are not only state of the art but have a layout that creates a great environment to work in. Furthermore, he said, "Together with great partners like Honda and Aramco, they have all the key pieces of infrastructure needed to make Aston Martin a world championship-winning team and I am very much looking forward to helping reach that goal."
