Hyundai’s Genesis to Enter Top-Level Endurance Racing!

Hyundai’s luxury division Genesis has announced that it will be entering the world of endurance racing. This is the latest entry in the Endurance championship that already has big names like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Cadillac, BMW, Peugeot, Toyota Gazoo, Alpine among others. If you too are a motorsport fan, then find all details of the proposal ahead.

The Genesis WEC Hypercar

Genesis has chosen the Le Mans Dayton h (LMDh) rules for their car as they said it would “be a natural fit” for their motorsport ambitions and a “valuable platform” to drive the development of future mobility technologies for road cars. This category is the highest class of both the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the IMSA championship based in the USA. The IMSA is important for Genesis as the USA is one of its key markets. The shell of the car in this category is provided by one or the other of 4 chassis makers: Ligier, Dallara, Oreca or Multimatic. Genesis has not specified who they would be taking their chassis from. The competitors of Genesis in this category could include Lamborghini, Porsche, BMW and Alpine. We also don't know if they are aiming for both the IMSA and WEC championships.

What Genesis Said

Genesis, along with its parent company Hyundai said: “Genesis is proud to announce its ambitious entry into the world of endurance racing through the LMDh programme. Genesis is actively exploring programmes to strengthen its high-performance image, and after a thorough evaluation of various options, LMDh emerged as the most strategic choice for us at this time.” Further adding “We have carefully analysed LMDh and found it to be a natural fit for our motorsport ambitions and a valuable platform to drive the development of future mobility technologies for road cars.”

FIA’s Statement

The FIA along with the FIA World Endurance Championship announced “Hyundai's luxury brand Genesis has today (12th September) made official its intention to join endurance racing in the near future. Potential FIA World Endurance Championship entry remains subject to WEC Selection Committee approval.”

The world of racing isnt new to the world of racing as they have been a part of the World Rally Championship and the Touring Car Racing for many years now.
