Xiaomi Showcase their New Electric Car SU7 in india

Xiaomi, the Chinese company that took India’s smartphone market by storm, also wants to enter our car market. How? With an electric SUV, they call the SU7. For now, they have just showcased it for now as a part of the 10th anniversary celebrations. Let us see what the hype is all about

Looks of the SU7

Sawyer Li, head of design at Xiaomi, designed the SU7. He is known for his five-year tenure at BMW, where he assisted in the design of vehicles like the BMW iX and Circular Vision Concept. The SU7 takes inspiration from both the Porsche Taycan and the BYD Seal. The headlights give it Taycan vibes, while the overall shape is more like the Seal. It gets a drag coefficient of 0.195, which shows how aerodynamic the EV is. 

The interior approach is simple. It has a large centre screen and a digital instrument cluster like all EVs. Less common elements include the panoramic sunroof and heads-up display. 

Performance of SU7

Xiaomi offers three different battery packs for the SU7 in China. The first is a 73.6 kWh unit with a claimed range of 700 km and RWD. The second is a 94.3 kWh pack, also with RWD and 830 km of range. Lastly, a 101 kWh unit comes with an all-AWD two-motor setup in the SU7 Max variant and gets a range of 800 km. 

The RWD versions churn out  295 bhp and 400 Nm of torque. The real meat, though, lies in the AWD that can produce 663 bhp and 838 Nm of torque. The max speed both setups can achieve is 265 kmph. 

Launch and Price of the SU7

Xiaomi has not provided any information on when they plan to launch the XU7 in India. Regarding Chinese pricing, the cheapest variant starts at 24.79 Lakh (¥215,900 ), the mid variant  SU7 pro costs 28.23 lakh (¥245,900), and the top SU7 max costs Rs 34.42 Lakh (¥299,900). 

If Indian prices are the same as China's, then the lower trims will compete with the ZS EV and lower trims of BYD Atto 3, while the higher trims will compete with the Ioniq 5 and top trims of BYD Atto 3.
