Volvo XC90 To Be Released on September 4 With Hybrid Powertrain

Volvo is all set to unveil the XC90 on September 4. This SUV will now come with a hybrid powertrain as Volvo transitions towards sustainability. Volvo released a teaser of the upcoming SUV that shows some of its details. It will sell alongside its electric sibling, EX90.

Why Hybrid?

The upcoming XC 90 will be a part of the hybrid approach that Volvo is moving towards. This comes after the Swedish brand has decided to become an all-electric company by 2030. That plan might be reconsidered as there has been a major slump in the demand for EVs in global markets. Volvo's CEO, Jim Rowan, emphasised the importance of addressing the needs of buyers who aren't fully prepared to switch to electric vehicles (EVs) yet. As a result, Volvo is likely to introduce more hybrid versions of their existing internal combustion engine (ICE) models.

Exterior of The Volvo XC90 facelift

The new Volvo XC90 is expected to have a similar look to its electric counterpart, the EX90 SUV. The teaser shows a small part of the XC90's bonnet, which seems to have a sculpted design. The headlights are a little different but still contain Volvo's exclusive Thor hammer LED graphics. We expect the SUV to also get an updated body and cockpit. This will be the first time the SUV will be upgraded since its launch in 2015.

Interior of Volvo XC90 facelift

Like the exterior, the XC90 facelift will bring some significant changes to the interior. It will feature higher-quality materials, modern tech and a new overall look. The first of these would be two screens that would be used for infotainment and the driver information. These will be shared with the EX90. Further on, we expect it to come equipped with LiDAR technology, which is also found in the EX90.

Powertrain of Volvo XC90 facelift

Volvo has not released any details of the exact powertrain in the upcoming XC90. We are also not sure if it will come with a plug-in or mild hybrid setup. That being said, Volvo seems completely hyped for the launch. They say that September 4 will be called the 90/90 Day. We may also see some other cars being introduced, as Volvo said that the event will have some extra surprises.

India Launch of Volvo XC90 Facelift

We do not have any information on the India launch of the Volvo XC90 Facelift yet. For reference, the current generation of the XC90 is available in India for a starting price of 1.01 crore (ex-showroom).
