TVS has recently unveiled the latest iteration of its best-selling scooter, the Jupiter, starting at Rs 73,700 and availble in four varaints. As the second-most-selling scooter in India, the Jupiter's popularity stems from its family-friendly appeal. 110cc commuter scooters, which account for 50% of the entire scooter market, are a staple for Indian families. Honda Activa had long dominated this segment until the debut of TVS Jupiter in 2013. No other commuter scooter has come close to matching its success. With multiple editions under its belt, TVS has now launched the second-generation Jupiter, aiming to broaden its appeal among both youth and families with a host of new features.
TVS Jupiter Mild Hybrid Engine
The Jupiter introduces a 113.3 cc single-cylinder 4-stroke engine paired with a mild hybrid system, a segment-first. This system includes an Integrated Starter-Generator with a performance battery, controller, and Assist Motor, enabling silent start/stop and Torque boost. TVS refers to these features as "intelligent start/stop" and "IGO assist," which contribute to a 7-8% performance improvement and a 7-10% increase in fuel efficiency. The powerful engine delivers 8 hp of power at 6500 rpm and 9.2 Nm of torque at 500 rpm. With the TVS IGO assist, torque is boosted to 9.8 Nm at 5000 rpm.
TVS Jupiter 110 Design
The latest Jupiter boasts a completely revamped design, offering a modern and sophisticated look offered in 6 colours. It breaks away from the conventional family commuter stereotype while maintaining its familiarity. As teased by TVS, the front features a wide LED light bar with integrated turn indicators and full LED headlamps on the handlebar. The rear is equipped with a red LED light bar integrated with turn indicators. The scooter now has a larger seat and has moved the fuel filler cap from the rear to the front apron, similar to the Jupiter 125. This change improves the centre of gravity and increases boot space to a best-in-class 33-litre, easily accommodating two half-face helmets. However, the boot lamp has been removed. The body of the latest TVS Jupiter is constructed using a combination of fibre and metal, which TVS calls "metal max body."
TVS Jupiter Tech and Features
The scooter offers 15 new segment-first features, with top variants featuring a negative full LCD instrument cluster with turn-by-turn navigation. Smart connected features include last-parked location and easy-find functionality through a connected app, voice assistant through a connected helmet, and call and message notifications on the screen. The turn indicator switch doubles as a hazard lamp switch and also features auto-cancelling after the scooter moves 100 meters and 20 seconds.
For added safety, the scooter is equipped with an emergency brake indication. The Jupiter 110 cc retains the adjustable rear suspension and front fork suspension while also introducing petal disc brakes, a segment-first. It rides on 90/90 12-inch TVS tyres, similar to its predecessor.
