The Maruti Suzuki Swift’s facelift might finally make it to our shores! Swift has been one of the most sought-after cars in the Indian market for decades now. It has recently faced a lot of competition from its own stablemates like the Baleno while also battling the raging demand for SUVs. After it was facelifted internationally, we were eager to see it make its way to India. It will come out in May 2024. It will change in all aspects, including looks, features, and engine.
What powers it?
The legendary K series 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine will find its way out with this generation. Replacing it will be the latest new Z Series 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine. This engine is relatively new, and its first powered car was a Japan-spec Swift. It might get the Indian or Maruti in touch with it as well, which will see some changes happen in efficiency, performance, and emissions. It is expected to churn out similar numbers in power and torque as the outgoing K-series engine. For reference, the K-series petrol guzzler produced 90 hp of power and 113 Nm of torque. It might also be assisted with mild hybrid tech. The transmission front may remain the same in the form of a 5-speed manual and an AMT.
How are the Exteriors?
Test mules revealed that Suzuki might only make a few changes to the international variant of the Swift before launching it in India. However, we expect some changes, including tweaks in the bumpers on either side of the car. While the alloy wheels might be the same as the international variant, the lower and middle variants may get a different design. The top-spec variant will have LED lights, and a blacked-out C pillar is also on the cards.
How is the Cabin?
The interiors of the 2024 Swift are expected to be refreshing compared to the last model. It will have a new dashboard layout, and the infotainment display will take center stage. The driver information will be provided through a digital panel. The seat upholstery and materials are also new.
Have they considered Safety?
Maruti has some features for safety in the Swift, too, including six airbags, ABS, EBD and ESP as standard and 3-point seatbelts at the rear. Features like the 360-degree camera and ADAS may not make their way into the Indian model, though.
Do you think the Swift can gain back its dominant place in the hatchback market with the 2024 upgrades?
