The Ford Capri is back, but with an Electric Twist

Ford has revived the Capri moniker after it was dead for 38 long years. What was the Capri you ask? The Capri used to be sports car that made its presence felt from the late 1960s up to 1986. The sports coupe is back, rather its name is back because it is neither sports, not coupe. What it is, is a saloon shaped electric SUV.

Looks of the Capri

Some parts of the new and old Capri are alike, like the dogbone front. It gets some of its elements from the beetle as Ford and Volkswagen had entered into a deal to share some parts of electric production. This makes the Capri a close sibling to ID.5. It looks similar to the Polestar from the C-pillar. The yellow color stands out with the front LED lights split into four on both sides. It gets flower like alloy wheels with contrasted black fenders. It measures 4634 mm in lenght, 2063 mm in width, 1626 mm in height. The herb weight of the car ranges from 2023 kg to 2115 kg.

Is it only me or it looks oddly similar to the India-bound Citroen Basalt?

Powertrain of Capri

You can choose from either a single rear motor that produces 282 bhp or a twin-motor setup that produces 335 bhp. The single motor accelerates it from 0-100 kmph in 6.4 seconds while the twin motors can do the same in 5.3 seconds. The batteries with these powertrains are also different. The single motor version takes power from a 77 kWh battery that can provide a around 628 km or range and charge at up to 135 kW. The twin-motor version derives its power from a 79 kWh battery pack that can last for up to 592 km and charge at a maximum of 185 kW. The Caprii’s suspension is 10 mm lower than the Explorer.

Interior of Capri

On the inside, the Capri feels very similar to the Explorer. Taking centre stage is a 14.6-inch infotainment display that can slide up and down according to the user. It also has a secret storage area behind it. You can similar features like the ADAS suite too. One cool bit is the ‘megaconsole” storage bin that can keep up to 17-litres of things. On the subject of storage, it also gets a 627 litre boot.

While we don't have any information on the Capri’s India arrival, it seems very unlikely.
