Tata Motors has announced that they will unveil the Curvv SUV on July 19. With its launch set for August 7, the unveiling will reveal some final details of the upcoming SUV. Entering the highly contested Mid-size SUV market, here is what is known about the SUV for now.
Exterior of Tata Curvv
The Curvv features the familiar split LED headlamps typical of Tata. The side claddings boast a glossy black finish, and the rear is equipped with split tail lamps and triangular air vents. The most notable aspect of the car is its unique floating, frameless, coupe-style roofline, which sets it apart. Additionally, the wheels sport a petal-like design.
Cabin of Tata Curvv
The first part of the cabin you will notice is the four-spoke steering wheel, which is similar to the Harrier and Safari. It also shares the 10.25-inch infotainment display and a matching digital instrument cluster. Additionally, it comes equipped with a range of features, including a wireless charger, a 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, connected car functionalities, and a panoramic sunroof.
Engine of Tata Curvv
The electric version will be built on Tata's Gen 2 acti.ev architecture and is expected to range 450-500 km, although the precise figures have yet to be confirmed.
The Tata Curvv will come with a new 123 bhp, 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with both manual and automatic transmissions. Diesel variants will utilize the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder engine found in the Nexon.
Price of Tata Curvv
Tata will likely launch the Curvv lineup in India with the Curvv EV, which is anticipated to be priced around 20 lakh. This would position it as Tata's flagship EV until the Harrier EV is released. It will compete with the MG ZS EV, the forthcoming Hyundai Creta EV, and the Maruti Suzuki eVX.
The ICE version is expected to be launched around the 10 lakh price range. If this proves accurate, it will enter India's highly competitive mid-size SUV market. This segment includes the Grand Vitara, Hyundai Creta, MG Astor, Kia Seltos, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Honda Elevate.
Tata EV Plans
The Curvv will be a part of Tata Motors' initiative to transition towards electric cars. It plans to invest between ₹16,000 crore and ₹18,000 crore in its EV division by FY30. The company intends to introduce six new EV models by March 2026, supplementing its current four models. Additionally, Tata Motors is collaborating with charge point operators to install nearly 22,000 chargers to enhance the EV charging infrastructure over the next few years.
