Skoda plans to reveal its first compact SUV in India on August 21. This car will be the third car under its 2.0 programme. We expect it to launch in the early stages of 2025. This car will lock horns in the highly competitive compact SUV segment.
Name of Skoda Compact SUV
Skoda plans to launch the car with a name starting with the letter 'K' like the other SUVs in its portfolio, the Kushaq and Kodiaq. Skoda ran a 'Name Your Skoda' campaign to decide on this name, urging customers to name the next SUV. The contest is now closed after Skoda shortlisted 10 names for the car. The list of names includes Kariq, Kylaq, Kliq, Kyroq, and Kwiq.
Design of Skoda Compact SUV
The upcoming model will follow the general design directions followed by Skoda cars. It has a front, alloy wheel design, and taillamps similar to the Kushaq. It will be based on the MQB-A0-IN platform. According to the spy shots, it will share the front gates with the Kushaq while having shorter doors on the rear. It will have a high ground clearance and bold shapes near the fenders.
Skoda described the design as follows: "The a new compact SUV will be the company's implementation of the Modern Solid design language in India. It is defined by clear, reduced lines that reflect the simplicity, solidity, and quality of Skoda cars."
Interior of Skoda Compact SUV
The upcoming SUV is expected to have a feature-rich cabin. It might share the same infotainment panel as the Kushaq and features like automatic climate control and ventilated seats in the top trims.
Powertrain of Skoda Compact SUV
We expect Skoda to equip its new model with the 1.0-litre 3-cylinder TSI petrol engine also found in the Kushaq and Slavia. The petrol guzzler can produce 114 bhp and 178 Nm of torque. This engine will be paired with either a 6-speed torque convertor automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission.
Price and Competition of Skoda Compact SUV
Skoda has not revealed the price tag of the upcoming model. Still, to be competitive in the market, it will have to target a starting price close to 8 Lakhs. Even if they do that, it will face staunch competition from other compact SUVs like the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and Toyota Taisor.
