Skoda Kodiaq Armoured Revealed: Can Take Bullet and Grenade Damage

Skoda has revealed the Kodiaq Armoured, an armoured version of the SUV. As the name suggests, it was developed in partnership with UK-based security firm UTAC Special Vehicles.  The Kodiaq Armoured gets a certificate that proves it has met the PAS 300 and PAS 301 civilian armoured vehicle standards.

What Can Kodiaq Armoured Do?

The standards passed by the SUV certify that it can offer resistance to bullets from ‘various handguns and assault rifles’. It is also capable of handling grenades and high explosive detonations. Skoda has claimed that the Kodiaq Armoured went through more than 200 rounds of ammunition while being tested. It also had blast resistance testing for the underbody, sides and roof.

Additions Over Standard Kodiaq

The Kodiaq Armoured features upgrades like bullet-resistant glass, underbody blast protection, and high-strength steel armouring for the bodywork. The suspension and brake are upgraded to ensure the same agility and drivability as the standard model. The vehicle also has a tyre retention system that prevents the tyres from sliding away from the rim when flat. The upgraded SUV is only slightly different from the standard version on the aesthetics front. It has strobe lights on the grille, front bumper, D-pillar. There is also a siren in the car.

Interior of Kodiaq Armored

On the inside, the Kodiaq Armoured has an 8-inch infotainment display with GPS and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has five seats and 2,000 litres of space in the trunk.

Powertrain of Kodiaq Armoured

Skoda has said that multiple powertrains will be available with the Kodiaq Armoured. These will include four-wheel drive versions that will make it capable of driving in varied conditions.
