Shelby has given birth to an absolute maniacal being: a 830hp monster called Super Snake. When you mention American muscle cars, you cannot help but worship Shelby. They have created legendary automobiles since the 1960s. Their association with Mustang has created pop-icon legends over the years. As the V8 and muscle car era slowly comes to a close, Shelby has announced the Super Snake. It is a celebration of the Mustangs’s 60th anniversary. The Super Snake is also an attempt to pay homage to the Super Snake from 1967, which derived its power from the GT40’s engine.
The Mammoth V8
Starting with the powertrains in the car, the Super Snake is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.0-litre Coyote V-8 that produces 480 hp. This engine comes to its real potential in the version that adds a Whipple supercharger, bringing its power to 830 hp. Unlike the supercars of our era, it gets a 6-speed manual transmission as an option, along with a 10-speed automatic. The manual comes with a short-throw shifter and a one-piece driveshaft.
Aggressive Inside-Out
The Super Snake gets a bucket load of features to get the most out of the car. These include a new suspension that allows ‘sharper turn-in,’ a special Shelby Borla exhaust, better brakes, and more efficient cooling.
The looks of the Super Snake match the aggression of the engine. It has an aluminium hood, carbon front fenders, bumper pieces, grille, side rockers, and lower diffuser. If you get the fastback body style, you can get a large carbon wing on the rear. The convertible one gets a smaller ducktail spoiler. It stands on 20-inch magnesium wheels that take a lot of weight off that rotating mass. This helps you run deep into the corners and accelerate out faster.
Stepping into the cabin, you will be reminded that you’re in a Shelby by elements like embroidered seats, embroidered floor mats, Cobra-themed puddle lamps, Super Snake door sill plates, and a numbered dash plaque. The shifter ball is also Shelby-branded.
Launch Timeline
Shelby says 250 such cars will be produced exclusively for the US in the first year of production, starting in the summer of 2024. They will come with a Super Snake, which comes with a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty, and the original Ford engine warranty remains the same. The prices are not out yet, but expect them to put a big dent in the wallet.
