Japanese giant Pioneer has launched its new VREC Dash Camera series in India. This launch comes just a year after they had announced investments into localisation of their products in India. The company claims these devices were made completely by the Indian R&D teams based in Gurugram and Bangalore. These cameras will aim to increase the safety and security of passengers through features like AI.
What are Dash Cams?
Dash cams are cameras that are installed in cars to keep a watch over the surroundings of the vehicle. These are especially important in case of accidents, when they help users make claims and use them as evidence. Some of these cameras even help users keep a watch over their parket vehicles. Further on, some fleet owners use Dash cams to keep their drivers in check.
Pioneer’s Dash Cams
Pioneer’s VREC Dash Camera series consists of four models with different prices and different sets of features. These start at Rs 5399 and go up to Rs 23,499. All of these dash cams are connected with Pioneer’s mobile app that allows you to watch the videos, create travelogues and also adjust settings of the camera. Users can buy them through both offline and online stores. Considering the privacy, Pioneer claimed that the videos through these cameras will be saved on the devices and not be sent to their servers. One interesting feature of these cameras is that if you opt for a separate hardwire kit, they can also record the feed of any incidents that might happen when the vehicle is parked. It will take minimal current from the battery in the parked mode and will be cut off if the battery voltage is too low. Here are the details of all models:
VREC-H120SC
VREC-H120SC is the base model of the series that gets a single forward facing camera. This camera can record at 1.5k resolution, offering a 120 degree field-of-view. It can be connected with Wi-fi and Pioneer’s mobile app that shows all of information of the camera. You can add a microSD card of up to 128 GB in this camera. The company has priced this model at Rs 5,399.
VREC-H320SC
The VREC-H320SC is the second model that brings some major upgrades to the base model while doubling in price. The first of these is a 3-inch display which other than showing a live feed, can also show ADAS alerts. There are two such alerts in this web cam, Forward Collision Warning Alert and Lane Departure Alert. The field-of-view of this camera is 139 degrees. It supports a SD card of up to 512 GB and also offers halo reduction. It will be available at an MRP of Rs 11,399.
VREC-H520DC
VREC-H520DC doubles the amount of cameras in the system, with the second being used to monitor the vehicles behind. It offers 2K resolution footage using Sony Starvis 2 technology. It has a 140 degree field-of-view. Its SD card support is the same as the previous model. This adds the Stop & Go feature to the ADAS suite. It has an MRP of Rs 18,499.
VREC-Z820DC
The VREC-Z820DC is the top of the line camera of the series and hence gets all the best features. While the basic features remain the same as the one before, the big USP of this product is its AI night Vision. Pioneer claims this can help clear the footage at night while also improving quality. The AI can also read road-signs and give dynamic speed alerts. The company claims they have trained it according to Indian conditions. The price of this camera is 23,499.
The cameras will be available in the market by the middle of September.
