Next-Gen Ford Equator Unveiled

Ford is planning to refresh the Ford Equator. This model takes a place above the Ford Everest that is known in India by the Endeavour moniker. The massive SUV will now be a part of the models that have entered the new plug-in hybrid era. Ford plans to manufacture it in the JMC-Ford joint venture plant in China.

How does the Ford Equator Look?

The front of the Equator feels less louder than before with the grill becoming smaller and the LED headlamps also becoming thinner. The rear also has fresh looks with a new bumper and fresh LED tail lamps. The sides remain majorly unchanged with only the alloys getting a new design. We don't know any details of the interior yet but a 27-inch infotainment panel that was added to the Ford Evos crossover might be on cards.

What powers the Ford Equator?

The biggest change in the Equator comes in its powertrain. It has the same 150hp, 1.5-litre petrol engine that is now mated to a plug-in hybrid powertrain. This electric motor adds 82hp to bring the total output to 218 hp. The battery here is sourced from CATL. Apart from this option, it also gets a 1.5-litre Ecoboost petrol engine that produces 170 hp and 260 Nm of torque. The earlier available 2-litre EcoBoost engine has not made the cut this time around.

Will Ford Equator Enter India?

Ford had plans of launching a C-segment SUV based on the Equator when it was functioning in India. However, hese plans went to the drain when Ford exited India in September 2021.
