New Basalt Teaser Shows its Interior Tech

Citroen is releasing information about the Basalt in a set of teasers before they finally showcase it to the Indian market. The SUV will be a direct competitor to the Tata Curvv, with Citroen expecting it to help them gain a foothold in the Indian market.

What the Teaser Reveals

The latest teaser of the Basalt shows that its interior will share many elements from the C3 Aircross, like the leatherette seats, 10.2-inch infotainment panel with squarish AC vents below it, and a digital instrument cluster. One major addition to the C3 Aircross will be the presence of automatic climate control instead of rotating switches.

To remind you, the last teaser was the first to give insight into the interior of the Basalt. It showed the armrests available to both the front and rear passengers. The rear armrest also had the additional convenience of a phone holder. It also revealed the side supports for the headrests and the infotainment panel we talked about before. Along with the interior, it showed the official look of Basalt's production version for the first time, which included the LED DRLs and projector headlamps.

What We Expect From Basalt

Based on the concept design, the Basalt features a split grille and headlight housing, which is consistent with Citroen's current design language. Its standout feature is the sloping, coupe-like roof, reminiscent of the Tata Curvv, and a distinctive rear design. The car's yellow hue adds to its modern appeal. In addition to the revealed features, we anticipate it will include cruise control and a push-button engine start/stop. For safety, it is expected to come with six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), a rear parking camera, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). It will likely be powered by the same engine as the Citroen C3 Aircros: a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 108 bhp and 205 Nm of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Launch and Rivals of Basalt

Citroen will take the final wraps off the Basalt on August 2, and we expect its launch sometime after that. We expect it to be around the 11-12 Lakh price bracket. It will be a direct rival to the Tata Curvv, with a launch date of August 7. Apart from that, it will go up against market stalwarts like the Creta, Seltos, Grand Vitara, Elevate, Hyryder, Taigun, Kushaq, and Astor.
