MG's Next EV Named Windsor EV, Inspired by The Windsor Castle

JSW MG Motor has rolled out the first teaser of their upcoming EV. They have finalised the name Winsor EV, inspired by the iconic Windsor Castle in the UK. This car will be of the CUV format and might be launched in September.

Based on SAIC's Model

The Windsor EV will be the same car as the MPV that SAIC, MG's parent company, sells as the Wuling Cloud EV in Indonesia, just like the Comet EV finds its base in the Wuling Air sold in China. It will be 4.3m long and have a wheelbase of 2.7 m. It will be MG's third EV after the ZS EV and Comet EV.

Powertrain of Windsor EV

The Windsor EV is likely to be powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor on the front axle that produces 132 bhp. The international version of the Winstor EV gets two battery packs: a 37.9 kWh unit and a 50.6 kWh one. These battery packs have a range of 360 km and 460 km, respectively.

Design of Windsor EV

The Windsor EV has a curvy MPV-like design. The official teaser reveals a small front bonnet with a protruding bumper ahead of it. It will feature LED headlights connected to a lightbar and LED DRLs. The rear lights are also expected to be LEDs. Unlike the ZS EV, which aims for a boxy SUV look, the Winsor will be more rounded.

Interiors of Windsor EV

As it is based on a purely electric platform, Windsor will likely get more space in the interior than its ICE counterparts. Starting from the screens, there will be two of them, one for infotainment and the other for the driver information. Almost all the controls will be handled through the 15.6-inch infotainment panel, doing away with the analogue switches seen on cars. The instrument panel is expected to be of a smaller 8.8-inch size. Its front seats might even get a 'sofa mode' like its international variant. The other features it might share with its international sibling could be the 360-degree camera and the ADAS suite. Recent teasers have shown it will get a panoramic sunroof.

Launch and Price of Windsor EV

We do not have an MG launch date yet, but we expect it to be around the end of August or in September. MG might launch the EV around the 20 lakh mark, putting it in direct contention with arch-rivals the Mahindra XUV400 and the Tata Nexon EV.

Windsor EV For Medalists

In a recent tweet, Sajjan Jindal, Chariman of JSW, tweeted that every Olympic medalist from Team India will be gifted a MG Windsor for their efforts.
