MG is all set to introduce its third EV in India, the Windsor, on September 11. It will sit between the Comet EV and the ZS EV. This model will be based on the Cloud EV that MG sells in multiple international markets. The name of the EV is inspired by the legendary Windsor Castle. So, what does MG have to offer with this EV? How potent is the powertrain? How does it look? Find answers to all of these questions below.
Design of Windsor EV
Based on the SAIC's model, the Windsor EV will be identical to the MPV sold in Indonesia as the Wuling Cloud EV, similar to how the Comet EV is based on the Wuling Air from China. The Windsor EV will measure 4.3 metres in length with a 2.7-meter wheelbase. The Windsor EV will sport a curvy MPV-like appearance with a small front bonnet and a protruding bumper. It will feature LED headlights connected by a lightbar, LED DRLs, and LED rear lights. Unlike the ZS EV's boxy SUV design, the Windsor will have a more rounded shape.
Interior of Windsor EV
On the inside, the Windsor EV is expected to offer more interior space compared to its ICE counterparts due to its electric platform. It will likely have two screens—one for infotainment and another for driver information—with a 15.6-inch infotainment screen handling most controls. The instrument panel is anticipated to be an 8.8-inch display. Additional features might include a 'sofa mode' for the front seats, a 360-degree camera, and an ADAS suite. Recent teasers also indicate it will have a panoramic sunroof.
Powertrain of Windsor EV
In terms of powertrain, the Windsor EV will likely feature a front-axle permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering 132 bhp. The international version will offer two battery options: a 37.9 kWh unit with a range of 360 km and a 50.6 kWh unit with a range of 460 km.
Launch and Price of Windsor EV
MG will introduce the Windsor EV on September 11 and might launch it sometime after that. The Windsor EV is projected to be priced around 20 lakh, positioning it competitively against rivals like the Mahindra XUV400 and Tata Nexon EV.
