MG is hard at work in teasing its upcoming EV, the Windsor EV. This car is slated to be out on September 11 and will be the third electric offering from the company after the ZS EV and Comet. As we reported earlier, it is expected to be based on the SAIC’s Wuling Cloud EV sold in Indonesia. Here is what we spotted in the latest teasers:
What the Teaser Reveals
The most important part that we saw in the teaser is the presence of a 15.6-inch infotainment screen inside the Windsor EV. This will be second to only the BYD Seal in terms of screen size when it comes to EVs. It displays multiple information like the range, battery, Jiosaavn music playback, MG app store, themes, cabin modes. In terms of functionality, The screen will also support Apple Carplay and Android Auto. In terms of functionality, you will be able to adjust the lights, turn signals and also the HVAC of the car. The second part is the steering that is shared with the Comet. It is more functional though, with features like cruise control added to it. Behind this steering, you will find a 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster that is also found in the Comet. It gets its own upgrades with the Windsor that include better fonts, graphics and interface. The dashboard o is made up of soft materials, wood and features aluminium bits on the edges of the AC vents.
Design of Windsor EV
The Windsor EV will be a 4.3-meter-long MPV with a 2.7-meter wheelbase. It will feature a curvy MPV design, including a small front bonnet and a pronounced bumper. The vehicle will come equipped with LED headlights connected by a lightbar, LED daytime running lights (DRLs), and LED taillights. Unlike the boxy SUV design of the ZS EV, the Windsor will have a more rounded, flowing shape.
Interior of Windsor EV
Inside, the Windsor EV is expected to offer more space compared to its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterparts, thanks to its electric platform. It is likely to include two screens: a 15.6-inch infotainment screen managing most controls and an 8.8-inch display for driver information. Other anticipated features include a 'sofa mode' for the front seats, a 360-degree camera, and an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). Teasers also suggest the inclusion of a panoramic sunroof.
Powertrain of Windsor EV
The Windsor EV is expected to be powered by a front-axle permanent magnet synchronous motor, producing 132 bhp. It will likely be available internationally with two battery options: a 37.9 kWh battery providing a range of 360 km and a 50.6 kWh battery offering a range of 460 km.
Launch and Price of Windsor EV
MG is set to unveil the Windsor EV on September 11, with a potential launch date shortly thereafter. The expected price is around ₹20 lakh, positioning it as a strong competitor to models like the Mahindra XUV400 and Tata Nexon EV.
