MG Motors has unveiled its second generation of the HS SUV at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which is taking place in the United Kingdom. The new model is larger than the previous one, has more engine options, and offers better features and technology.
Powertrain of the MG HS
The MG HS gives two options to the users when it comes to the powertrain. They can opt for a general 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that is slightly more powerful, now capable of churning out 168 bhp and 275 Nm of torque. This engine can accelerate the SUV from 0-100 kmph in 9.4 seconds. It is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The real power boost is in the 1.5-litre hybrid petrol version, which gets 206 bhp, which is close to double the previous generation’s 121 bhp. This powertrain boosts it from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.8 seconds. The motor in this powertrain gets its power from a 24.7 kWh battery that can help it claim a range of 120 km in the EV mode alone. The PHEV supports Bidirectional charging of the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) type.
Design of the MG HS
The MG HS looks fresh thanks to its updated grill and sharp roofline. Adding to this are the futuristic-looking X-shaped LED tail lamps, which are connected with a full-length light bar and fresh 19-inch alloy wheels. It comes in five hues: White Pearl, Black Pearl, Sterling Silver Metallic, Hampstead Grey Metallic, and Dynamic Red Tri-coat.
In terms of numbers, it is 4670 mm long, 1890 mm wide, and 1634 mm tall, meaning it is 45 mm longer, 14 mm wider, and 30 mm shorter. The wheelbase has increased by 45 mm to 2765 mm.
Cabin of the MG HS
On the inside, the MG HS has a black interior that is contrasted by the red stitching of the dashboard. MG has claimed that they have used new quality materials on the inside. Taking centre stage are the twin 12.3-inch displays that serve as the infotainment panel and the digital instrument cluster. There is a new 3-spoke steering, electrically adjustable driver and passenger seats, heated ORVMs, wireless charger, keyless entry, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, a 360-degree camera, 8-speaker music system, iSmart, an electronic parking brake and a new gear shifter that MG says has a ‘shuttle-style’. The boot of the SUV is 44 litres larger, bringing it to 507 litres.
Price and India Launch of MG HS
MG has priced the HS at Rs 27.09 Lakh (£24,995) in the UK. Since they partnered with JSW in India, they have plans to launch many models in India. While we do not have any exact news of its India launch, MG might have plans to introduce it in India sometime in the future. If it does arrive, it will be positioned perfectly between the Hector and the Gloster.
