Mercedes GLC 43 4Matic Coupe and CLE Cabriolet Teased: Launch on August 8

Mercedes has teased the GLC 43 AMG and the CLE Cabriolet for the first time before their launch in India later in the week. These will be CBU units and will be among the 6 models that Mercedes plans to introduce in India in the next 5-6 months.

About the GLC 43 AMG Coupe

The GLC 43 will be making a comeback to the Indian market after 2 years with this launch. Its initial teasers give an initial glimpse of the car's front grille and rear taillights. It will get a completely new design and feature list compared to the GLC 43 that was sold in India a couple of years back.

Under the hood, Mercedes has done away with the 3-litre inline-six petrol engine for a new 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol mill. This new engine produces a power output of 421 bhp and 500 Nm of torque.  It can accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 4.7 seconds, with a top speed electronically capped at 250 kmph. It is paired with a 9-speed Automatic transmission that sends the power to all the 4 wheels through a 4MATIC AWD drivetrain.

The GLC 43 boasts a sleek, coupe-like roofline and the signature design elements typical of AMGs. These features include an AMG grille, aggressive front and rear bumpers, AMG-specific side skirts, a prominent rear diffuser, four exhaust pipes, and 21-inch alloy wheels.

The interior largely mirrors that of the GLC, with several AMG-specific enhancements. These include an AMG steering wheel, Nappa leather sports seats, AMG-branded pedals and floor mats. Additionally, the instrument cluster and infotainment panel feature software with AMG graphics.

It might get a price tag of above 1 crore.

CLE Cabriolet

The Teaser of the CLE Cabriolet shows the spoke-type wheels and sleek headlights on the front. On the rear, it shows the open rear seats with the roof removed, along with a side shot of the taillights.

The CLE Cabriolet was introduced to international markets in July 2023. It is built on the Mercedes Modular Rear Architecture (MRA) platform, which supports the C-class and the upcoming E-class. In India, it is anticipated to be available exclusively as a convertible.

Aesthetically, the stunning model features a large shark-nose-inspired grille, a long bonnet, and a fabric roof that retracts into the boot. Inside, the CLE Cabriolet boasts an 11.9-inch portrait-style infotainment screen paired with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. It offers a 2+2 seating arrangement, comfortably accommodating four passengers.

Globally, the CLE is equipped with a 2.0L 4-cylinder petrol engine available in two performance variants: CLE 200 and CLE 300 4Matic. The CLE 200 delivers 201 bhp, while the CLE 300 4Matic produces 254 bhp. An AMG variant is also available, generating 443 bhp. These engines are paired with a 48V mild-hybrid electric motor integrated into the 9-speed torque converter, adding an extra 22 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. Additionally, a 2.0L diesel engine option is available, producing 194 bhp. The specific version to be released in India is yet to be confirmed. The price is expected to be upwards of 1 crore, positioning it as a competitor to the BMW Z4 M40i.
