Mercedes launched the Mercedes EQS 580 SUV in India, starting at Rs 1.41 crore. The EQS SUV is placed below the recently launched Maybach EQS SUV. It marks the 6th Electric model from the German automaker. It is the second EV assembled in India at Mercedes’ Chakan facility. India is the second market after the USA where the EQS 580 will be manufactured locally. It comes at a 2 Lakh premium over the EQE SUV.
Design of EQS SUV
The EQS SUV follows the EQ line of models in terms of the basic design. It has a black closed grille on the front with LED headlamps on either side. It also gets an LED light bar connecting these headlights. On the rear, the characteristic EQ tail lamps are also connected with a lightbar and a rear spoiler. On the side, it gets flush door handles and 21-inch alloy wheels. Mercedes offers the EQS SUV in 6 paint options along with 2 Manufaktur colours.
Interior of EQS SUV
The EQS SUV gets a triple-screen layout on the dashboard. The first is a 12.3-inch driver panel, the second is a 17.7-inch infotainment display, and the third is a 12.3-inch screen for passenger entertainment. Users can also opt to have a heads-up display that enables navigation using augmented reality. The rear armrest gets a 7.4-inch removable tablet to control HVAC and other functions. The rear seats can be moved up to 130 mm for better leg space and reclined. It also gets a rear MBUX entertainment package with two 11.6-inch screens for the rear passengers. Mercedes has launched it in India as a 7-seater with third-row access through a button. The third-row passengers get type-c charging and AC vents. Other features of the EQS SUV include a 15-speaker Burmester music system that supports Dolby Atmos, a Wireless charger on front and rear, soft close doors, 9 airbags, and ADAS Level 2.
Powertrain of EQS SUV
The EQS SUV is powered by two motors, one on each axle, making it an AWD setup. These give a total output of 536 bhp and 858 Nm of torque. These are capable of accelerating the EV from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.7 seconds while reaching a top speed of 210 kmph. The motors derive their power from a 122 kWh battery pack. This battery can last a claimed 809 km of range on a full charge. It can be topped up using a 200 kW DC charger that can give a claimed 260 km range with 15 minutes of charge.
