Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB launched

The new sixth-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class Long Wheelbase has debuted in India, with prices starting at Rs 78.50 lakh (ex-showroom). This luxury sedan brings fresh design elements, cutting-edge technology, and more powerful engine options. India is notably the only right-hand-drive market for the E-Class Long Wheelbase, making this release particularly significant.

Pricing and Variants

Mercedes-Benz has introduced three variants of the new E-Class in India:

E 200: Rs 78.50 lakh
E 220d: Rs 81.50 lakh
E 450 4Matic: Rs 92.50 lakh

*All prices are introductory, with deliveries commencing in November 2024

The E450 4Matic stands out as India's most powerful version of the E-Class with a turbocharged six-cylinder pumping out 375BHP. Thanks to the AMG line styling kit, it will appeal to enthusiasts looking for top-tier performance and sporty styling.

Design and Aesthetic Upgrades

Built on Mercedes’ Modular Rear Architecture (MRA), the new E-Class has undergone subtle yet impactful design upgrades. Its aerodynamics have been refined, and its overall size has grown slightly, giving it a more commanding road presence. Key design changes include a wider grille with illuminated surrounds, sleeker LED headlights, a longer bonnet, and flush door handles. At the rear, split taillights with triangular elements add a modern touch, while new 18-inch alloy wheels complete the look.

For the first time, the E-Class features a rear-wheel steering system, which enhances manoeuvrability and provides a smoother driving experience, especially in tight city spaces. The car has five colour options: Graphite Grey, polar white, Obsidian Black, High Tech Silver, and a new Nautical Blue.

Luxurious Interior and Advanced Technology

Inside, the E-Class offers a minimalist yet luxurious cabin heavily inspired by the electric EQS sedan. The dashboard has an MBUX Superscreen, integrating a 12.3-inch digital driver display, a 14.4-inch central touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch co-driver display. The digital experience is intuitive, making the car highly user-friendly while exuding modern luxury.

The rear cabin has been optimized for passenger comfort. The rear bench seat can be reclined up to 36 degrees, with adjustable headrests, expandable under-thigh support, and convenient features such as rear sunblinds and a wireless charging pad. The E-Class also offers a Burmester 4D surround sound system, four-zone climate control, and 64-color ambient lighting, ensuring that both driver and passengers travel in comfort and style.

The technology inside this vehicle goes beyond just entertainment and convenience. The new E-Class offers AI-driven routines, Level 4 autonomy readiness, and the option for driverless valet parking in regions where it’s permitted, such as Germany.

Performance and Engine Options

In terms of performance, the E-Class offers a variety of powertrain options, including mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid setups. The Indian market will have access to two engine types:

A 2.0-litre petrol engine produces 201BHP and 320Nm of torque.
A 2.0-litre diesel engine delivering 194BHP and 440Nm of torque.
However, the standout is the 3.0-litre, six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine in the E450 4Matic, producing a staggering 375BHP. All engines are paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, providing smooth gear changes. An electric boost enhances combined output, ensuring a dynamic yet efficient driving experience.
