Maruti Suzuki Swift S-CNG Launched at Rs 8.19 Lakh: CNG Mileage King?

Maruti Suzuki has launched the new Swift CNG in the Indian market at Rs 8.19 lakh (ex-showroom). The Swift was updated in May this year and initially launched with a petrol powertrain and has garnered 67,000 sales already. The Swift CNG targets customers who want even more fuel efficiency than an already fuel-efficient Swift. It is based on the VXi, VXi(O) and ZXi variants of the standard model. 

Powertrain of Swift CNG

The Swift CNG uses the same 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Z Series present in the Swift 2024. This engine will produce 69 bhp and 101.8 Nm of torque when running on CNG. For reference, when used with petrol, this engine produces 80 bhp and 111.7 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Unlike the standard Swift, which also offers a 5-speed AMT, the Swift CNG does not get an automatic transmission. 
While it claims a mileage of 24.8 kmpl on petrol, this further increases to a claimed 32.85kg/km km/kg (6% higher than the last generation) on CNG. Maruti Suzuki has continued the single tank layout in the Swift CNG unlike the twin-cylinder layout we have seen from Hyundai and Tata. 

Features of Swift CNG

The features available are dependent on the variant chosen. With the VXi trim, you will get features like projector halogen headlamps, power windows, 14-inch steel wheels and remote central locking. For safety, it gets features like six airbags and remote central locking. 
The VXi (O) gets all these features and adds to them a 7-inch infotainment panel that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, steering mounted controls and a height adjustable driver’s seat.
The top ZXi trim is loaded with all the features of the top model of the standard Swift. These include LED projector headlamps, LED DRLs, 15-inch alloy wheels, automatic air conditioning, a rear washer wiper and wireless charging. This is the first time CNG has made its way to the top trim of the hatchback. 

Price and Variants of Swift CNG

As mentioned earlier, the Swift CNG is based on the  VXi, VXi(O), and ZXi Variants of the Swift. The Swift CNG VXi is the entry level model with a price of Rs. 8.19 lakh. The VXi (O) costs Rs. 8.46 lakh while the CNG ZXi is the range topper at Rs. 9.19 lakh.

The Swift CNG is the 14th CNG model from Maruti Suzuki and the company claims its deliveries will start from 12 October, 2024.
