Mahindra 3XO: What Do We Know So Far?

We know that the Mahindra XUV 3XO will be launched on 29th April. It's safe to say that the 3XO has garnered a good amount of hype for itself before it reveals itself to the world. Mahindra has released information about the SUV bit by bit with video teasers on its social media handles. Now that we are just a few days away from its official launch, let's look at all we know about Mahindra's compact SUV until now.

Completely Refreshed Design

The XUV300 was a well-designed car, but the age of that design began to show with the entry of new and exciting options from other companies. The XUV 3X0 will address this issue head-on. It will have a refreshed exterior from the front and back, a new triangular design in the grille, and a fresh headlight cluster. It also has boomerang-shaped LED DRLs, projector headlights, fog lamps, and new alloy wheels.

The Mahindra "Twin Peaks" logo takes centre stage at the rear, with a large XUV 3XO badge below it. It gets LED tail lamps that are connected with the help of a lightbar (I guess Mahindra has jumped into the connected LED trend), along with a bumper that is positioned higher. The SUV's tailgate also gets a new design and lighting arrangement.

Interior Overhaul

The XUV 3XO will bid farewell to the dated interior we saw in the XUV300. The most significant talking point is the panoramic sunroof. It is a feature particularly loved in India and might sway some customers in XUV's favour. The instrument cluster in the 3XO will be digital and coupled with an infotainment display we expect to share with the XUV400. Both these screens will be 10.25-inch. It will also get ventilated seats, which might be a blessing for its users in the summer. The music on the 3XO will be delivered through a premium Harman-Kardon setup. It might even get connected car tech, a wireless smartphone charger, wireless connectivity, auto-dimming IRVM and a new steering wheel.

Better Performance, Higher Efficiency!

The latest teaser in a long line of many was focused on the SUV's fuel efficiency and performance. Mahindra has claimed, through this teaser, that it will get a 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds. The power will be available in multiple drive modes, such as its sibling XUV700. The teaser says it will get the Zip and Zap modes from the premium SUV.

The second claim in the teaser concerned the fuel efficiency of the XUV 3XO. It claimed an ARAI-tested mileage of 20.1 km/l. While it didn't specify which powertrain will get this, we expect it to be the diesel variant.

On the topic of powertrains, we expect the XUV 3XO to come with the same three engines available in the XUV300. In petrol, you have two options: a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine that produces 109 bhp and 200 Nm of peak torque, and a more powerful 1.2-litre T-GDI mStallion turbo petrol unit delivering 128 hp power and 230 Nm torque. If you prefer Diesel engines, choose the 1.5-litre diesel unit that gives 115 bhp and 300 Nm of torque. A 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AMT will be responsible for the transmission duties. Mahindra might also add a 6-speed torque convertor to the mix this time.

Price, Launch and Rivals

The price of the SUV is not yet out, but we expect it to come at a premium over the 7.99 Lakh ex-showroom price of the XUV300. We will get to know this when it is launched on 29th April. It will lock horns with the rivals of the XUV 300 like the Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza. Would the added features make it a better buy than all of these?
