Lotus Theory 1 Concept Revealed: This is Lotus’ Future!

Lotus has revealed its new electric supercar concept,  the Theory 1, to the world. This concept hints at the design language we can expect from the British Carmaker in the coming years. It combines the core values of the Lotus brand with the modern approach it intends to take moving forward in the electric world. How did they do that? Find ahead:

Design of the Lotus Theory 1

The concept is the first that gives the ‘Lotus Theory’ design a go. This will be followed in the coming Lotus cars. It derives inspiration from the Series 1 Esprit. It gets a diffuser and air deflectors on the front that direct air into the cooling system along with the underside. This air is later directed to decrease drag and help the adjustable rear wing with the downforce. There are multiple exposed carbon fibre elements in the Theory 1 on the lower side of the car which are complemented by the silver body and glass dome-shaped roof. In terms of numbers, the Theory 1 is 4,490mm long, 2,000mm wide, 1,140mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,650mm.

Interior of Lotus Theory 1

On the Inside, the Theory 1 has a 3-seater layout with the driver sitting in the centre and passengers on either side. This seat does not move according to the driver, so the steering wheel and pedals move instead. There are no screens for entertainment in the Theory 1. The only screen you will find is on the steering wheel, like in Formula 1 cars.

Powertrain of Lotus Theory 1

The Theory 1 is powered by two electric motors that produce a combined output of 987 bhp (The 1000 PS number sounds better). This is delivered to all the wheels through an AWD setup. In terms of acceleration, Lotus claims these motors can help the car go from 0 to 100 kmph in a mere 2.5 seconds. It can hit a top speed of 320 kmph. Where do these motors get that massive power from? A 70 kWh battery that is placed close to the motor on the rear. This battery can give the Theory 1 a claimed range of 402 km when fully charged.
