Kia EV9 Teased: India Launch on October 3

Kia has teased its upcoming electric SUV, the EV9, in India before its launch on October 3. This will be the second electric offering in India after the EV6. It will be the Korean company’s flagship model and is expected to be sold in India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). We first got a glimpse of the SUV at the Auto Expo 2023, after which it made a global debut. It is built on the E-GMP platform that also underpins the EV6.

What the Teaser of Kia EV9 Reveals
The teaser shared by Kia shows the front and rear design of the EV9. On the front, it gets a closed version of Kia’s signature tiger-nose grille that has LED headlights on either side. This grille can display animated patterns thanks to the square shaped light elements in it. The rear has uniquely shaped taillights that somewhat resemble a 3-pronged boomerang. The EV9 rides on 21-inch alloy wheels. It will also get a panoramic sunroof.

Powertrain of EV9
The EV9 is powered by either a 76.1kWh battery or a 99.8kWh version. This power is used by either a dual motor or single motor setup. The dual motors combined produce a power output of 379 bhp and 700 Nm of torque that is delivered to all the wheels through an AWD drivetrain. It gives a claimed range of 489 km in the top trims on a full charge. The single-motor version can produce 198 or 212 bhp in different variations and 350 Nm of torque. This version gets a 370 km of claimed range. It supports ultra-fast 350 kW DC charging, allowing for an 80% charge in approximately 20-30 minutes.

Interior of EV9
EV9’s interior will offer users features like a 12.3-inch dual panoramic display, a head-up display, wireless charging and bi-directional charging. On the safety front, it gets multiple airbags along with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including a Highway Driving Pilot for semi-autonomous driving.

Price and Competition of EV9
We expect the EV9 will be placed above the EV6 and might get a price of around Rs 1 Crore. This will put it in direct competition with the big league models of the Germans. These heavy-weights include the BMW iX1, Audi Q8 e-tron and the BMW iX1.

Would you buy the EV9 for around 1 Crore?
