Jeep updates the Meridian for 2024

Jeep India has just unveiled the refreshed Meridian in India, and it’s sure to attract attention with its striking looks, updated features, and notably more competitive pricing. At an introductory starting price of ₹24.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the facelifted Meridian is positioned to appeal to a broader audience, offering both 5-seater and 7-seater configurations. This strategic update enhances its value proposition and introduces a more affordable entry point compared to its predecessor, whose prices began at ₹31.23 lakh.

Meridian’s Trim Levels and Pricing

Jeep has streamlined the Meridian facelift into four distinct trims: Longitude, Longitude Plus, Limited (O), and Overland, ensuring a wide range of choices for potential buyers. Here’s a quick breakdown of the starting prices:

  • Longitude – ₹24.99 lakh
  • Longitude Plus – ₹27.50 lakh
  • Limited (O) – ₹30.49 lakh
  • Overland – ₹36.49 lakh

The introduction of the Longitude trim as a 5-seater makes it the most affordable option, while the higher variants offer both 5-seater and 7-seater configurations to cater to different family sizes or preferences. The Limited (O) and Overland trims pack some excellent upgrades for those prioritising more features and premium comfort.

Meridian and Compass:

One of the most interesting developments is the price overlap between the refreshed Meridian and its smaller sibling, the Jeep Compass. Currently, the Compass is priced between ₹18.99 lakh and ₹32.41 lakh, putting it quite close to Meridian’s new pricing structure. This overlap is bound to attract the attention of buyers considering the Compass. Still, it could be tempted by the added space and features of the Meridian for just a little extra investment.

Exterior Enhancements: Subtle

Jeep hasn’t drastically altered the exterior of the Meridian, but the updates it has made do bring a fresh appeal. The signature seven-slot grille now features a honeycomb mesh with chrome accents, giving it a more upscale and modern appearance. The 18-inch alloy wheels carry over from the previous Overland Edition, maintaining a stylish look that complements the Meridian’s presence on the road.

These changes may seem minor, but they contribute to a more refined and cohesive design language that ensures the Meridian continues to look the part of a premium SUV.

Interior Updates:

Jeep has enhanced the overall cabin feel with a few thoughtful updates. The dashboard in the overland variant now features a suede finish paired with copper stitching that adds a subtle touch of sophistication. Meanwhile, the seats come upholstered in a fresh beige theme, lending a more premium ambience to the cabin.

Jeep has also replaced the chrome strip running beneath the dashboard with a new copper finish, adding a unique contrast to the interior. The familiar 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system remain, providing an intuitive and user-friendly interface. Audiophiles will appreciate the 9-speaker Alpine audio system, carried over from the previous model, along with other conveniences like ventilated front seats and a wireless charger.

On the technology front, the top-spec Overland trim introduces Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), which includes features like adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist. These driver-assistance technologies elevate the Meridian’s safety credentials, making it a more attractive option for tech-savvy buyers.

Additionally, Jeep has expanded its connected car features, including Alexa Home-to-Vehicle integration, which allows for a seamless connection between your home innovative system and your SUV. These updates reflect Jeep’s commitment to keeping the Meridian competitive in today’s tech-driven automotive market.

Space and Versatility

In terms of space, the Meridian continues to impress. The 5-seater variant offers a substantial 670 litres of boot space, while the 7-seater variant provides up to 824 litres when the second row is folded down. Even with all three rows in use, the 7-seater offers 170 litres of boot space, ensuring enough room for a weekend trip’s worth of luggage.

Powertrain: No Changes Under the Hood

Mechanically, the Meridian remains unchanged, retaining its tried-and-tested 167 bhp, 2.0-litre diesel engine. With 350Nm of torque, this engine offers a balanced mix of performance and efficiency. Buyers can choose between a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed automatic gearbox, with both 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrain options available, making it easily handle various terrains.

The decision to stick with the existing powertrain is likely a reflection of its proven reliability and suitability for Indian driving conditions. Jeep enthusiasts will appreciate the familiar driving experience that blends power with off-road capability.

A Smart Update for a Competitive Market

The Jeep Meridian facelift represents a thoughtful evolution of an already capable and well-regarded SUV. By offering more accessible pricing, a broader range of seating configurations, and critical feature updates, Jeep has made the Meridian a stronger contender in the mid-size SUV segment.
