Hyundai Genesis GV80 Patented in India: To Enter Indian Market Soon?

The Luxury market in India has seen a tremendous boom in recent times with companies like Mercedes having their best half year numbers ever. Hyundai seems to be interested in this market and might bring the Genesis brand to the country. Why do we think so? Some road tests and a couple of patents. Find out about them below:

Genesis GV80 and GV80 Coupe Patents

Genesis, for reference, is the luxury division of Hyundai that is sold across the world. India is yet to witness the entry of the brand but some patents could be proof that it is soon. Genesis made patentes for the Genesis GV80 and GV80 coupe in India some time back.After that, we saw the GV80 being tested on the Indian roads which might make a good match in the Indian market. 
While the standard GV80’s patents were made in April, the GV80 Coupe patent is as recent as this month. While we don't have an official word from Hyundai, we believe the introduction of the Genesis brand might be a strong possibility. 

Design of Genesis GV80 and GV80 Coupe

The GV80 and GV80 Coupe stand as tall and bulky SUVs with that exude luxury. They feature the characteristic Genesis grille of a pentagonal shape. While the G80 has the traditional silhouette you expect from an SUV, the G80 Coupe opts for a sloping roofline.

On the inside, the biggest highlight is a 27-inch display that dually functions as an infotainment panel and a digital instrument cluster. The AC vents run across the length of the dashboard and below them are physical buttons for the automatic climate control. The SUVs are loaded with features. These include  head-up display, cruise control, wireless device charger, automatic climate control and an ADAS suite. The ADAS has features like lane keep assist, lane following assist, driver attention warning, forward attention warning, blind-spot collision avoidance assist, blind-spot view monitor,, parking distance warning, parking collision-avoidance assist, rearview camera, safe exit assist, advanced rear occupant alert and rear cross-traffic collision avoidance assist.

The GV80 is available internationally with two engine choices: a 2.5-liter four-cylinder turbo petrol engine producing 296 bhp and 422 Nm of torque, and a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 petrol engine delivering 375 bhp and 530 Nm of torque. Additionally, the GV80 features a mild-hybrid variant of the 3.5-liter engine, which generates 409 bhp and 549 Nm of torque.

Price and Rivals of Genesis GV80 and GV80 Coupe

The international price of the Genesis GV80 starts at Rs 49.12 Lakh ($58,700) and the GV80 Coupe starts at Rs 66.90 Lakh ($79,950). We are yet to see when Hyundai launches them in India and at what price. They will lock horns with the established players like the BMW X5, Audi Q7 and Mercedes GLE in India.
