First Electric G-wagon’s Bookings Open

Mercedes has started the bookings of its first electric G-wagon in India after it was revealed in April. With the official name ‘Mercedes-Benz 580 with EQ Technology’. If you also want to book one, then you can head over to the Mercedes website or a showroom near you. Here is all you need to know:

Exterior

We first saw the EQG concept at the Bharat Mobility Expo. It has now been rebranded as the G 580 with EQ Technology for its worldwide release. While preserving the iconic G-Class design features, the electric model includes a sealed, illuminated grille, revamped bumpers, and a distinct compartment for the charger instead of the traditional spare tyre. The AMG variant also features 20-inch wheels.

Interior

When it comes to the interior of the electric G580, it gets a touch of modernity along with the traditional bits you expect from a Mercedes. It has features like a multifunctional steering wheel with touch controls, twin 12.3-inch displays which serve as an infotainment display and a digital instrument cluster, a voice assistant and an augmented reality-based heads-up display (HUD). You can also get an extra feature pack that gets two 11.6-inch touchscreens and a Burmester 3D system.

On the safety front, it gets a 360-degree camera, traffic sign assist, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) features, including lane-keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, airbags, and a driver attentiveness alert.

Powertrain

The G 580 is equipped with a quad-motor all-wheel-drive electric powertrain, with each wheel driven by its own electric motor. This setup delivers a combined output of 579 bhp and a staggering 1,164 Nm of torque. The G 580 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds and has a top speed capped at 180 km/h.

According to Mercedes, this motor derives its power from a 116 kWh under-floor battery pack, offering a range of up to 473 km on a single charge. The G 580 supports DC fast charging up to 200 kW, allowing it to charge from 10% to 80% in about 32 minutes. It also supports AC charging up to 11 kW.

Cost and Competitors

The Mercedes-Benz G580 EQ Technology is expected to get a price tag of 3 Crore (ex-showroom). It will lock horns with the Land Rover Defender.
