Citroen Basalt to Be Unveiled on August 2: The Coupe-SUV Battle Begins!

We finally have a date for when we will see the production-ready Basalt in India, August 2. The massively hyped coupe SUV from Citroen would be a direct competitor to the upcoming Tata Curvv and serve as the last vehicle of the C-Cubed program from Citroen. We have seen the concept of the model before, and Citroen claims the final version is very similar in design. So, what is this design like? How feature-rich will it be? Which engine will it use? Here are the answers to all of the questions according to what we know for now:

Design of Basalt

If test mules are to go by, the production-ready Basalt, like the concept, looks very similar to the C3 Aircross. The split grille and headlight housing reflect Citroen's current design language. Its standout features are the distinctive rear and the sloping, coupe-like roof, which give it a sporty look likely to appeal to young buyers. Its shiny yellow colour also adds to the SUV's young and bold appeal.

Interiors of Basalt

Citroen hasn't officially announced any details of the Basalt's cabin. However, spy shots have given us some clues. We anticipate the interior will be based on the Citroen C3 Aircross but with additional features and a more premium feel. Standard features for the Basalt could include a 10.2-inch touchscreen, a 7-inch digital instrument panel, automatic climate control, cruise control, and push-button engine start/stop. For safety, it might come equipped with six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), a rear parking camera, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

Powertrain of Basalt

Citroen might not equip the Basalt with a new engine. They will likely continue using the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine found in the Citroen C3 Aircross and Citroen C3. This engine can produce 108 bhp of power and 205 Nm of torque. It will be paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Rivals of Basalt

The Citroen Basalt will enter a cut-throat market of SUVs. It will lock horns with the top sellers like Creta, Seltos, Grand Vitara, Elevate, Hyryder, Taigun, Kushaq and Astor. There is also the new Tata Curvv that will further challenge the Basalt in establishing itself in the market.

Which one do you think would be a bigger success: The Curvv or Basalt?
