Citroen has announced that the Basalt will get an introductory starting price starting at 7.99 Lakh. The French company will release the complete pricing soon. Buyers can book the Coupe SUV by submitting a booking amount of Rs 11,001 either on a Citroen showroom or through Citroen India’s website. This price will stay for deliveries until 31st October 2024. The price comes as a surprise as it massively undercuts all the models of its segment by at least 2 Lakh. Here is all that the SUV gets at this price:
Powertrain of Citroen Basalt
The Citroen Basalt offers two engine choices, both of which are 1.2-litre petrol units. The first option is a naturally aspirated engine that produces 82hp and 114 Nm torque. This is paired with a single 5-speed manual transmission. The second option is a turbocharged variant capable of generating 110 hp. This can be mated with either a 6-speed manual gearbox that generates 190 Nm of torque or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission that gets a torque figure of 205 Nm.
Design of Citroen Basalt
The looks of the Basalt match entirely with the Citroën style language as it is based on the C3 and C3 Aircross. Starting at the front, the Basalt is very hard to set apart with the C3 Aircross, only differentiated by tiny differences like the body-coloured trim panel below the grille, LED projector headlamps, larger air-grille inserts, silver skid plates, and squared wheel arches. The biggest difference, however, is apparent on the side, with the Basalt’s sloping Coupe-like roof. The rear has 3D wrap-around tail lamps. Like the concept, you can also opt for an optional blacked-out roof and chunky black cladding all around.
Cabin of Citroen Basalt
The interior is not much of a different story than the exterior. The Basalt on the inside is also just like the C3 Aircross but with some needed additions. These include a new automatic AC digital readout and a larger front armrest. What really caught our eye was the tilt-adjustable thigh support on the rear seats, which has three degrees of tilt. The feature list of the SUV includes a 10.25-inch floating infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster as on the C3. The boot of the Basalt offers 470 litres of space. Safety is ensured by features like six airbags, electronic stability control, a tyre pressure monitoring system and a reversing camera.
Rivals of Citroen Basalt
The Basalt joins the crowded pool of SUVs in its segment. Its rivals include big names like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Skoda Koshaq, Volkswagen Taigun, MG Astor, and the recently launched Tata Curvv. However, the Basalt has a strong price advantage over them, making it an option worth considering.
