BYD Sealion 7 Launched in India starting at Rs 48.9 lakh

BYD has launched the Sealion 7 electric SUV in India for Rs 48.9 lakh for the Premium variant and top-spec Performance trim for Rs 54.9 lakh. The car was first showcased at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025, and the bookings for the car also started at the same time. Deliveries for the Sealion 7 will start on 7th March 2025.

Powertrain

The same 82.56 kWh battery pack powers both variants.

  • The Premium variant delivers 313 bhp of power and 380 Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.7 seconds and has a claimed range of 567 km under the NEDC test cycle.

  • The Performance variant delivers 530 bhp of power and 690 Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.5 seconds and has a claimed range of 542 km under the NEDC test cycle.

Exterior

In all honesty, Sealion 7 looks like a beefy version of the BYD Seal. The headlights and tail lights are bound to remind you of the Seal sedan. It also has a sharp-looking front end with sharp elements around the closed-off front bumper. The Sealion 7 gets 19-inch alloy wheels in the Premium variant and 20-inch alloy wheels in the Performance variant. The SUV will be available in four colours: Shark Grey, Cosmos Black, Atlantis Grey and Aurora White.

Interior & Features

The Sealion 7’s dashboard layout and steering wheel bear similarities to the Seal. A 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment system controls most functions at the cabin's centre. The electric SUV offers a premium experience with ventilated front seats, a connected car system, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat with a memory function, a floating digital instrument cluster, a panoramic glass roof with a sunshade, and a 50W wireless phone charger. Additional conveniences include a heads-up display, a powered tailgate, and a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function.

Both the Premium and Performance variants come equipped with the same features. The SUV boasts a spacious 520-litre boot, expandable to 1,789 litres, with the rear seats folded and a 58-litre frunk. Safety is a key highlight, with 11 airbags, a 360-degree camera, and an array of ADAS features such as blind-spot detection, forward collision warning, intelligent cruise control, and automatic emergency braking.

Conclusion

On paper, the BYD Sealion 7 is a compelling package. However, it is set to compete against the BMW iX1 LWB, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Volvo C40 Rechange. Will it leave a mark on the Indian market? Only time will tell.
